3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
180ml bottle from Beernavigator
Bottle #776, brewed 12.1.2011, bottled 2.7.2012 - Pours dark brown with no head. Aroma of strong sweet syrupy malty notes, oak, wood, vinegar and alcohol. Taste is messy with strong sweet syrupy notes, alcohol, hints of bourbon, oak and wood. Finish is sticky, sweet, malty and oaky with notes of vanilla, bourbon and alcohol. Slightly too sweet for my taste, feels a bit unbalanced, but still surprisingly not that bad.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
180 ml bottle.
Pours a copper colour without a head. Aroma of strong malts, caramel, dried fruits and some alcohol. Flavour of strong sweet caramel, lingonberries, alcohol, dried fruits, low bitterness, bourbon and some wood. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Finishes warming, malty and sweet. Bourbon smoothens a bit. A dessert.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Picked up at the bottle shop at De Molen many manny months back. The tiny clear red waxed 18cl bottle, bottle number 760, pours with a headless clear amber body that has easy on the eyes red ruby hues. The aroma is super jazzed with brown sugar simmered prunes, dates and ripe cherries rolling into earthy musty molasses covered spicy oak and then some booze at the end of the draw. Outstanding! The taste is rich and starting out with prune and date like sweetness and getting cherry and earthy before muted molasses infused spicy oak joins in the fun. Excellent BA barleywine.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with no head whatsoever. The nose is quite pungent. It actually smells really bad. Wet garbage. But also in the trashbag is a little bit of raisins, some whiskey and wood. The taste is sweet, with a little bit of bitter but not enough to balance this monster. Mouthfeel is oily and harsh with some big alcohol warming to go along. The body is heavy and the finish is long. Not bad, nose is really the only detractor.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
It stinks first. Really unpleasant.
In mouth itís a bit disappointing: zero carbonation, taste is very (too) sweet.
Aromas: caramel, bourbon notes in aftertaste but not so evident.
I am really not so happy with that expensive brew!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Unclear light brown almost red barleywine with a little foam. The bottle looks like a small lambrusco. Very sweet but delicious enjoying beer that lasts very long.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
18 cl bottle (no. 1382/1722). Served at perhaps 12 degrees Celsius (difficult to tell, but it was not very cold). Color is a dark brown/amber. Very little foam, even though the beer was poured quite aggressively. Aroma is sweet; sugar and raisins. Tastes very sweet, smooth, warming alcohol. Not much of an aftertaste. Medium-bodied, I would say. Reminds me of a sweeter (at times it felt too sweet) Anchor Old Foghorn, a barley wine I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the sweet raisins part. I should have enjoyed this at a bit higher temperature, plus I was sitting outdoors. The cool temperature outdoors combined with the low temperature of the beer (I prefer warmer) affects my score. I will have to try this again some day.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ THE Barley Wine Tasting. Cheers Leighton (I think) for bringing this! The pourís deep brown with a small head. The nose is funky marmite, some big booze, cherries and burnt brown sugar. The taste is hugely sweet ripe fruits, some toffee and caramel, plenty of woody booze and astringent burned grain. Big body, a real sipper. Overall, pretty nice.
