Bottle. Orange, murky. Smoked birchwood, caramel malts on nose. Not overpowering smokyness, but still assertive. A bit of yeastyness there as well. Body is quite full. dry, but with sweet malts. Smoke, malts. As it lingers, belgian yeastyness starts to confront my palate, taking hold. Interesting brew. A lot of smoke, but the pale maltiness and yeasty flavours are there, especially on the palate and finish. Interesting..

Torfmalziger Antrunk mit deutlichem Whiskeyaroma. Vollmundig, trocken, dennoch süffig. Komplexe Rauchnoten mit mittelstarker Bitterkeit, holzig, zwischenzeitlich hell malzig. Vanille-holziges Ende, weiterhin torfig, nun etwas stärker bitter. Minimale Säure zum Ende, spritzig. Wirklich gut! 10/11/12/12/12/12

33cl bottle (bottled on July 2nd, 2012) picked up at the De Molen bottle shop pours with a clear copper body and gold hues that support a tall light tan head of foam. The aroma is straight up smoke and band-aid plastic with hints of malts off in the background that help create a slight alderwood sensation. The taste is similar with smoky rauchness nuanced by plastic and band-aid where you’re kind of waiting for it to get into that yummy bacon infused smokiness but it never does and leaves mild smoke and less than mild band-aid behind. Still, I’m drinking all of it and enjoying it as well. 9.9%, that’s hidden very well. I would drink this again if it was free but. . .

Bottle, many thanks to Bierkoning. Hazy amber color with huge off-white head. Aroma of smoke, malt, spices, earthy notes. Taste, malt, smoke, wood, yeast, grain, peat, wood, herbs, citrus, chocolate. Dry bitter finish. Tasty complex beer. .

Bottle. Pours a cloudy light amber beer with an off white, two finger head. Aroma is smokey, medicinal and has some iodium. Interesting. Flavour has sour touches, light yeasty flavours and overall flavour is hard to call sweet or sour or bitter.. It’s inbetween in a funny, interesting way. Can taste the smokeyness of birch in the palate, yet it has a funky sour note to it as well. Not sure about the flavours on this one, but I kinda like it.

Bottle from De Molen online shop. Dark brown body with slight head. Nose is smoky, oily, of cigars and tar. Taste is similar with plenty of cigars, oil, peat, ham and more smoke. Very silky, smooth texture. Enjoyable to try.

Bottle courtesy of Kermis. Poured a cloudy medium amber with a broken white head. The aroma is of band aid and hugely medicinal. The flavour is rich, dry and spicy, but I got the feeling that someone had added some disinfectant to this beer. Not one of the best from De Molen and I’m surprised it found its way out of the brewery.

33cl bottle courtesy of and shared with Kermis. Aroma is odd. Thin white head. Hazy amber pour. Not my cup of tea.

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy golden brown with an off white head. Aroma has massive band aid, garbage, light peat and smoke. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, smoke really coming through more in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle Golden color, hazy. Smoky tarry aroma, cigars. Initial malt flavor overpowered by smoky notes. beechwood, tar, lapsang souchong, cigars. Almost full bodied. Slightly alcoholic. Very much a tasting beer, the drinkability is limited.
