March 2013. Bottled Oct 2011. Enduring head as is expected from the De Molens. Smells of spirits and vegetables…I hope the taste doesn’t follow the nose. Taste is caramel malts with a weird semi-sharp vegetable finish. The dodgy aftertaste mellows over time. Salted caramel, malts, raisin. Not much balance to it. Some nice elements, but I’m not impressed overall.

gyllenbock (2963) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 30, 2013
Bottle at Monks Porter House. Brownish with a creamy white head. Very malty with toffee and dried fruit. Some notes of alcohol and phenols. Not brilliant but tasty enough.

Appearance: Deep amber color with a tan head that leaves some lacing.
Aroma: Balanced and a bit sweet fruity (raisins?).
Palate: Medium body. Slightly sweet and an ok bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Deep caramel malty and a fine fruity background. Raisins and light spicy.
Overall impression: An unusual fine Dopplebock. Normally no big fan. But this was a nice example.
Personal stats: Bottle as De Molen Dubbelbock from Vinmonopolet Oslo - Vika in Oslo, Norway.

Bottle @ home, from De Molen. The pour’s deep amber orange with a medium white head. The aroma’s lemon, some spice, deep red fruits. Brown bread maltiness. Some exotic passionfruit. The taste is rich caramel and spice. Chewy fruit gum, some strawberry jam. Mildly toasty. Rich full body, soft carbonation. A real cold weather sipper. Overall, pretty nice stuff.

0.33 L bottle as ”De Molen Dubbelbock”. Pours a clear ruby-shaded brown body with a brief ashy-blond head. Rich malt aroma, Nutty, gently roasted with dark bread tones. Full malt body. Sweet, yet clean. Caramel tones, dark bread and nuts, and a fine fruitiness reminiscent of raisis and dates. Balancing bitterness. Healthy body. Soft oily mouthfeel. Clean sweetish malty ending. A well-crafted and tasty true-to-the-type Dopplebock.
