4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
About 50ml from tap. Nice fawn-coloured head atop of a devil-black body. Semi-sweet aroma of roasted, dark chocolate malts and dark fruits sustained by a touch of alcohol. Earthy malts and anise in a rich flavour which also offers dried fruits, slightly roasted. Lasting finish of bittersweet chocolate and an integrated alcoholic tingle. Tasty sample and Iím really looking forward to a whole bottle of this wonderful brew (Copenhagen Beer Festival, 08.05.2010).

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
2010-08-02. Black body with a creamy brown head. Super rich flavour, fruity alcoholic character, notes of bourbon or brand but ultra smooth. Holy $#!+! Notes of chocolate liqueur or Baileys like flavours, mocha, alcohol is seductive and dangerous. 9+ Aroma is similarly rich, tangy dark fruit, subtle dark malt base, some sort of barrel/alcohol presence, vanilla notes. RICH. 9+ Super smooth medium to full bodied palate. Sufficient alcohol to be a kick in the pants but kind of awesome. I was lamenting the generous pour from the bartender on the first one, and then went back for a second after tasting it. So good. 3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by Kan, thanks! Poured black with a grayish brown head that started at the edges and dissipated completely. Aroma had note of dark grain and chocolate with a good amount of peat and smoke backing. Flavor had even more peat and smoke with a bit of dark chocolate and roast coming through and a hint of backing toffee.

[3249-20100802] Tap. Rich chocolate hints and coffee notes in the aroma with an underlying fruity roasted date. Black body with a medium-lasting creamy tan head. Toasted chocolate and roast coffee flavour has a long sweet chocolate liqueur aftertaste. Full body. Very tasty!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nip bottle, bottled on 5/3/10.. apparently only 96 bottles in the batch. Poured near-black with just about nothing going on head-wise. The aroma was very strong, with rich black malt and licorice roast topped by salty character and ash.. more and more smoke came out as it warmed.. it sort of grew on me, but I didnít love it. The flavor found burnt, fairly generic black malt roast at the core.. big oxidation, smoked peat, and peppery notes around and throughout.. sourness, smoked malt, and sharp belly warmth in the end. Heavy-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. this felt like it was past its prime and breaking down.

A Sim rate (tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival): Sharp, whisky aroma but with a creamy edge. Sweet brown sugar & coffee. Appearance is pitch black with a brown head. Burnt toast & roast coffee beans in the amazing flavour. Itís creamy coffee... not with skimmed milk as I make it these days, but made with half-and-half, how I no longer dare. So thick that it sticks to your palate. So, so good!
