3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma of licorice, earthy hops, caramel and molasses. Hops have faded a bit in the background but are still present. Flavor is light bitter with a sweet, malty touch as well. Nice combo of two worlds in which the sweetness is a bit overpowering. Thus a bit unbalanced, yet great stuff to drink. Nice find.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ joes shared by him. Pitch black colour with a small light brown head. Dark roasty, heavy cocoa, not a lot of hops because the roastyness overpowers it. Roasty, chocolate, hops, bitter, nice. Doesn?t taste as strong as I expected, but that isn?t really a bad thing. Nice black ipa. Medium to full body, slightly warming, soft carbo.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Wow. That was my first impression. On the one hand because I didn?t expect such a big beer, even knowing that it?s a black IPA from De Molen. But on the other hand, it is simply so unique. I tend to think it takes quite something to surprise me, after almost 3000 beers, but this does it. Also it?s just plain tasty. The aroma with deep roasted malts, some chocolate and a true hop kick reminds me very much of licorice and salmajak, so undoubtedly this was named after the Dutch ?zwart-witjes? candy. Except in liquid form with lots of hop bitterness to enjoy, many layers of roasted malt goodness and an alcohol warmth that asks for more and more. I adore this one. Powerful, unique, flavourful, challenging, brilliant. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge. Poured black with a halo of tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla and floral hops. Good balance of flavours; cocoa nibs, pine needles and black syrup. Finish was almost meaty with some hop resin, tar and burnt malt. Very well rounded beer and very deceptive on the strength. More zwart than wit, perhaps?

Roasted malts enter your nose, smooth first taste and amazingly easy for this percentage. Fine bitter end and full of complex tastes, highly recommended!

Bottle, 330 ml, served in a tulip glass. ABV 8.4%
Pitch black in colour and a thin brownish head on top, with low retention, but one that leaves big bubbles on the surface and light lacing around the glass.Aroma is very hoppy, mostly citrus with mandarines, orange peel,
Taste also of citrus, orange zest, hops, roasted malts that give an extra boost on the bitterness.
