Great and long creamy head giving beautiful lacing on glass. Pours black. Aroma explodes with hops, firstly more herbal then citrus. Great notes of dark malts combine with herbs countered by nice mandarin like notes which make this bear very drinkable. Alcohol is well disguised. Palate is rich from herbs through dark malts, melanoidines and citrus hops. Almost perfect CDA. Itís the best Imperial Cascadian Dark Ale I have ever drunk!!! Kurdos to De Molen. Drunk from bottle, 4 months after bottling (date 19/12/13).

Wow. That was my first impression. On the one hand because I didn?t expect such a big beer, even knowing that it?s a black IPA from De Molen. But on the other hand, it is simply so unique. I tend to think it takes quite something to surprise me, after almost 3000 beers, but this does it. Also it?s just plain tasty. The aroma with deep roasted malts, some chocolate and a true hop kick reminds me very much of licorice and salmajak, so undoubtedly this was named after the Dutch ?zwart-witjes? candy. Except in liquid form with lots of hop bitterness to enjoy, many layers of roasted malt goodness and an alcohol warmth that asks for more and more. I adore this one. Powerful, unique, flavourful, challenging, brilliant. (33cl bottle from Saveur BiŤre)

Piwo z tych urywających dupę. W aromacie czuć chmielowość idącą w nuty leśne, sporą paloność, kawę zbożową, początkowo wyczuwałem też lekkie nuty wędzone i kakaowe, ktůre szybko zanikły. W smaku poezja: doskonale grają ze sobą słody palone (kawa zbożowa) owsiane (kremowa tekstura) i żytni (ziemistość, oleistość, pełnia), do tego wyraźna, acz nieprzesadzona goryczka, doskonała pijalność mimo pełni. Dobrze ukryty alkohol. Doskonałe!

dark, coffee-like colour, moderate brown head; aroma of coffee, roasted malts, some chocolate and citrussy hops (less dominantly); taste of citrussy hops and roasted malts/coffee; excellent black IPA

330ml bottle from Beermoth, Manchester. I should pay more attention to what Iím buying in future.. picked this off the shelf in a hurry and thought it was a wit.. didnít half get a shock pouring this in the glass! Pours pitch black with beige head.. immediate first impression was of Salopianís Black Ops imperial stout with amarillo and sorachi ace hops.. except this has amarillo, chinook and Nelson Sauvin.. itís dark and heavy but with a sharp hoppy zing; melodious hop notes that resonate and sing long after itís touched your tastebuds. Incredible beer thatíll make the 7 long months until Boreft incredibly painful.

20cl from tap @ de Molen. Black color, strong beige head. Aroma roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, slight citrus, cannabis. Alchohol is totally hidden. Taste heavy bitter. Full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, fine long coffeeish bitter finish. Very tasty and very good balance.

33 cl. bottle @ ít Antwaerps Bierhuiske. Bottled on 07/08/2013. Quite fresh still. Pours dark brown / blackish in appearance with a bit smaller but creamy and very stable beige head. Smells distinctly roasted, mocha, sweet chocolate, slight vanilla, hint liquorish + grapefruits & pine hops. Taste is quite bitter, strong roast with some mocha & chocolate, bit burned in the finish, almost hint of ash, roasted malts & dash ground coffee, of all the hops, Nelson Sauvin is the one I am picking up by far the most, heavy undercurrent of juice Nelson Sauvin through. Body is a touch too light for what it should be, bit lesser carb. which is just perfect. Solid, improvement over some recent De Molen stuff, quite solid but still not close to the best ones of yore.

(33 cl bottle from Saveur BiŤre; BBD: 06/08/13) Pours black and tan with creamy two-finger head. Good retention and beautiful lace. Aroma is herbal hoppy with intriguing sprucy and spicy notes. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a flavourful, lingering yet only slightly bitter finish. Flavour is generally even more complex than the nose with some grapefruit notes. Well balanced and very little roastedness.

Dark pour with thin head. Roasted malts and hoppy aroma and taste. Great bitter finale. Nice and round composition. Very nice beer indeed.
