3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear almost black beer. Light beige head. Very smooth imperial stout. Mild roasted malts, mild bitterness, soft carbonation, mild whiskey and wood notes. No traces off the Laphroaig peatiness. Pleasant to drink, not spectacular.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
33cl bottle from Kamiel, #194 of 480. Dark mahogany with a light beige head that fades completely. First impression of the aroma is actually of a slightly watered down Laphraoig which is sorta funny as I never get these things right but it just had the right combination of peat, alcohol/burn and scotch. That being said the barrel characteristics do not overwhelm but the beer is still a little thin on the palate, slightly bitter, alcohol, mild chocolate, woody, mild carbonation, nice dry and whiskey finish,

Opaque black - brown beer with a good pale tan head. Airy soft palate. TCP and brett dominate the mild malt cream. Touch of dark chocolate. Finishes soft and airy and dry with more TCP Brett. Very left field but drinkable.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
I was very surprised by full and bitter original. In general barrel aging is a hit and miss affair for my taste. It can make it thin and softer the original. Despite the barrel aging being modest here -- not too much wiskey aromas -- this happened here as well. The base is still good though, very biscuity malts, bit woody even. Bitterness isn’t too pronounced. Interesting approach, certainly no wiskey bomb -- which I like. Yet not quite the power of the base beer, so I still prefer that. (33cl bottle from trade with Countbeer, thanks!)
