Drank 16-11-14 in my new room! Okay beer, but not very much taste. Bitter, hints of dark chocolate. Aftertaste has coffee hints. Nice beer, not great, not rich enough for that.

2/X/14 - 33cl bottle from Biernavigatie (webshop, NL) @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: 19/IX/13 (2014-1171)

Dark brown to black beer, huge creamy irregular beige head, fluffy, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: caramel, alcohol, lots of dried fruits, bit dusty, earthy, overripe banana, cocoa powder, coffee. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sourish start, lots of coffee, dark chocolate, pretty bitter, charcoal. Aftertaste: cocoa powder, very bitter and hoppy, dry, bit sourish, red currants, little too hoppy, but damn good!

Pours a froth, very stable beige head of decent size, with a virtually black color, leaving delicate sheets of lacing at the glass. Nose surprises me, because it inherits an easy recognizable tropical hop note, which settles above coffee beans and earthy malts - reminding me of a Black IPA. Begins with roasted coffee and earthy, slightly toasted malts, which, from the very first moment, builds a very satisfying foundation. This gets wrapped up by sweeter caramels, toffee hints and a load of fruity hops, in which papaya and orange really stand out against the rich malt flavors. The hops introduce a gentle bitterness to the palate, enhanced by a lively carbonation. Very smooth, slightly smoked beneath the maltiness, creamy with a crisp addition, due to the present hops. Finishes pleasantly sweet, after a malty, coffeeish introduction, with cane sugar, spawning from the slightly metallic carbonation, accompanied by a creamy, convincing bitterness from both hops and coffee. I am actually amazed how well all the flavors interact in this, great brew with a fantastic taste diversity.

Pours opaque dark brown, medium chocolate brown head. Not much aroma, hints of smoke and roasted malt. Flavor is bitter very early. Finish is chocolate and burnt.

Pours thick, tarry brown-ish black, opaque with dark tan head. The head dampens all the aroma, even swirling doesn’t help. Thick and full of notes of burnt ashes and smoke, and a very little bit of molasses and oatmeal. Very bitter.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 Bottled from biernavigatie.nl. Opaque black, thick brown head. Nose of roasted malts coffee, some licorice. Initially malty flavor with some chocolate, later on mainly chocolate, coffee, and lots of bitterness. Not bad, but with a bit too much one-dimensional bitterness.

Bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma: roast, coffee, liquorice. Taste expands on that, adding liquorice, citrus and resin notes, dark chocolate. Light-medium sweetness, medium-high bitterness and a slight sourness. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Nice long dry finish. The hoppy notes hint a bit towards black ipa. Like!

Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, light liquorice, some hops. Flavour is dark and roasty, medium sweet, with a good bitterness in the finish. Really nice example of the style.
