In food and in beer I enjoy a subtle element of smoke. The smoke in this one is too doninant for my taste. Rauchbier enthousiasts will like it. It has a nice citrussy fresh slightly sour taste with good hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

33cl bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with foamy, white lasting head. Aroma has only faint smoky notes on the side of malty and sugary body. Taste is a whole other thing. Smoke - boom! In the face full load of smoky and peaty explosion. Some nice hoppy taste as well. Aftertaste is actually a nice balance of hops and smoke. As smoke-IPAS go, this is a nice one. Perfect companion for long winter evenings when you are too weak for the daily Talisker.

A huge smoke bomb blasts in your mouth, quickly followed by a nice, crisp hop taste. Hints of grapefruit give it a fruity note which balances the smoke explosion in the beginning. Moch more acessable than the german smoke beer originals, but still a true member of this family with a anglo-saxon touch. De Natte Gijt’ Brewery calls it a ’RIPA (Rauch India Pale Ale) and it is true, this beer has everything you would expect from an IPA in combination with an explicit smoky taste. A unique but tasty combination. And so much easier to drink than a german ’Rauchbier’. A beer to have at home.

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy amber colour with average to huge, frothy, superby lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Smoky, woody aroma, hints of oak ashes, ham etc., caramel malty background, cautious hints of citrusy hop. Taste is initially smoky with identical flavours, in the middle part a touch of TCP comes in, some improper hop interference as well, later again more harmonious on moderately sweet caramel malty basis, citrusy hoppy finish. Really nice composition, smoky notes seem to extenuate with time, minimally bothersome TCP touch in the middle part. Excellent!

Flaske,33 cl. Let uklar, ravgylden med et frodigt off-white skum. Maltet næse m lidt spegepølse-røg. Humlenoterne dør i det selskab. Let sødlig, medium bitter. Ok, men ikke en IPA

Bottle from Bierkonig, Amsterdam, Netherlands, consumed at home Thursday 9th October 2014. Pours hazy, slightly glowing amber with large sticky white head. Light wafts of woodsmoke, its a nice smokiness, certainly not overdone and it works quite well with this IPA which in turn is also not a huge beasty hoppy affair. Soft carbonation and a waxy mouthfeel, hoppy burps. Fruitiness would be more tropical but the smokiness blunts it a little, sort of like barbecued soft fruits. Bitterness is restrained, good. Bottle @ Fille. Fruity with spicy and smokey notes, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is long and dry.
