COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rookop is a brown, top-fermented ale that is not sweet, with coffee in the flavour and a fine, mild bitterness. Rookop used to be brewed in the St-Joris brewery in Reningelst, Belgium until 1963 when the brewing activities stopped. The brewery was restored back to its original condition in 2012 and now functions as a meeting centre for families with children. We were asked to bring this famous beer back to life. Since the original recepy could not be recovered, a brand new beer was developed.

Head fast gone; fully hazy dark brown beer. Sweetish, lightly smoked-ashy nose, dry. Wry-lightly bitterish flavour (chicory), also woody, yeast products, green leaves. Light "smoked chocolate", if that makes sense. Very slick, medium to well-bodied. Nice, if unspectacular. Not one to serve too cold.

Think that I picked this up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie, consumed at home, Sunday 10th November 2013 Pours dark brown with a soft creamy textured beige head. To me this tastes not unlike a smaller brother of Rochefort 8, very moreish, very easy drinking, some chocolate, its a little bit fruity, enjoyable, very enjoyable. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle at RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting. It pours hazy amber-brown with a small beige head. The nose is sweet red berry, caramel, candy, caramel and brown sugar. The taste is caramel, candy, cola, wood, booze, dirt and leather with a hot, alcohol finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Hot, sweet and pretty one-dimensional.

Bouteille 25cl.
