Bottle. Almost black and opague. Grainy roasty cvreamy aroma. Cream, rye bread, some sour milky notes and chocolate cake in the flavor. Easy drinker, sweet, quite likeable.

(Tap at De Prael Proeflokaal, Amsterdam as HijsíM oatmeal stout) Very dark brown, opaque, with a ring head on top. Roasted and maple aroma, with a bit of dark chocolate. Some maple in the mouth also, along with dark bread.
Fairly soft in the mouth, and Iíd have given this a 4 for palate, but Iíd have liked a slightly fuller feel from the oatmeal.
This gets a little sweeter as the glass empties, but itís still not too sweet at the bottom. Not at all bad.
Unusually, Phil did not share this.

Bottle shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes and Martinus @ weekly tasting. Opaque black color, medium sized brown head that lasts for a decent while. Smell malts, sweetness, liquorice. Taste malts, liquorice, sweet and again liquorice. Oily texture, medium body, suitable carbonation. Nice!

(Draught at De Prael Proeflokaal, Amsterdam, 1 March 2014) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, coffee, dark bread and roasted oats. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, toasty oats, liquorice and a gentle lactose sweetness. Balanced bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, smooth and velvety mouthfeel. Tasty and well balanced. Very nice.

Bottled from Biernavigatie, BB Jan/Feb 2016, large sample, served in a trappist glass. Pours a dark redbrown color with a big frothy brown head, leaving some nice lacing. Aroma of grainy oat, some milk chocolate, roast, licorice, bit too high on yeast esters (from english/irish strain I think?). Bit sweet in taste, bit bitter. Quite creamy. Spicy licorice. Leaves a sugary and sticky palate. Most oatmeal stouts turn out to be licorice bombs in the Netherlands, where I prefer them to be more clean and creamy. I think its the combination of yeast esters (too high fermentation temperature? too stressed yeast?) and roasted malts that give this high amounts of fruity and spicy licorice.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours clear dark brown with a big beige head. Aroma of fudge, light chocolate, caramel and sweet malt. Flavour Iíd moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

On tap at Jopen. Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma of sugar, coffee with milk and sugar, chocolate, roasted malts, toffee. Flavour is quite sweet, coffee with milk and sugar, toffee, roasted malts, bitter finish. Medium-bodied. A bit too sweet IMHO.

Countbeer (4317) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - FEB 23, 2014
Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Medium sized creamy beige foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aromas of liquorice, maple, marzipan, bay leaf, leaf roast, malt roast, pils malt roast, crispy cardboard and some chocolate. The flavour has some sweet tones while this beer stays pretty true to stout and thus puts the sweetness a bit to the side. Some brown sugars, raisin, roast, cream, bay leaf, mocha, bitters, coffee with sugars, leaf toast, some caramel, toasted flowers... Bittersweet and creamy. Aftertaste is roasty, bitter, leaves, sweet and toasty/malty. Low carbo, thick creamy thick foamy mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a thick foamy texture. Nice but bit (too) sweet...
