(De Prael Metropolitan Cacao Beer) Bottle 330 ml from a trade with Borrensteijn, thanks Rob! Served into a big tulip, ABV 7.4% Deep brown colour on the body, huge and rising thick, beige head, with good retention, mostly because of its size. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate, caramel, sour notes that hint to a light infection. Taste has also some sour notes, not exactly infected though, more like oxidized, caramel, grains, still some cocoa, but lighter than the aroma.’ Medium thin body, high carbonation. Okay beer.

This pours a very dark brown color with a solid even layer of beige foam. Nose has a deep dark chokolate aroma accompanied by some raisin and caramel. Taste is sweet at first but is quickly followed by a deep lasting bitterness. Carbonation is medium but feels very soft due to the small bubbles. Otherwise palate is quite rich and creamy. Overall this is one of the better chokolate beers I’ve tasted, could be a bit less bitter though.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a reddish brown with an off-white head. Overripe dark fruit in the nose. Medium body, again some dark fruits, roast and a little phenols - while I don’t really pick up any cocoa. 060413

caesar (6600) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - FEB 15, 2013
Bottled from Metropolitan. Dark brown color, medium creamy brown head. Aroma of belgian yeast, lots of caramel and a hint of chocolat. Basicly a belgian double with some extra cocoa. In taste pretty much the same: caramelly belgian double styled beer with a soft hint of chocolat. Finishes rather dry and with some cocoa-bitterness. The cocoa nibs come out gentle and the balance of the beer is ok, but there’s a bit too much belgian yeast esters in this one that overpower most chocolat present.

Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Dark chocolate and cacao powder in the aroma. Malty sweetish flavor with dark chocolate, roast and cacao powder. Long roasty finish. Tasty!
