(Tap at De Prael Proeflokaal, Amsterdam, as Doe Maar Scotch Ale)
Cloudy red-orange with a smallish head. The aroma is a quite light and uplifting one, with some wet sheepy hops. Some wet sheep also in the taste, along with a touch of smoke. Offers a nice mix of grassy hops and light malts. Bitey bitter finish that grows on you but isn’t aggressive.
Unusually, Phil did not share this.

Mooi oranje honing kleurig bier met een witte vlokkerige schuimkraag. Smaak sinaasappel en citrus en hoppig. Geur metaalachtig.

Pours clear gold with medium white head. Aroma is bread, some belgian yeast, a hint of funkyness. Upon tasting, what I perceived as funky is revealed to be some big heavy smoke! Malt-heavy sweet body, caramel, toffee, sugar, more smoke. Very tasty once I got over the smoked malt surprise, still a bit too sweet.

Bottle. Golden hazy, average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, caramel - some toffee, light fruitiness, light hoppyness and faint alcohol. Medium malty and sweetish flavor with caramel - light toffee, faint fruitiness and light alcohol. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and faint hoppyness, light - some alcohol. Caramel sweetish Scotch ale - too sweet and one-dimensional for me.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, light copper beer with a medium sized, white head. Aroma is malty and yeasty with a very faint touch of smoke. Flavor has some bitterness present, but sadly it’s quite dominated by the yeast. Creamy, oily mouthfeel. Not a good example for the style unfortunately.

Bottle. An unclear, dark golden beer topped by a small, light beige head. Caramel, roasted malts, peat and notes of beef stock in the aroma. Not much hoppyness in the flavor either, except some bitterness in the finish. Meaty hints, peat and roasted malts and some caramel sweetness. A little alcohol warmth too. Full bodied and with a nice carbonation level. Not a kind of beer I’d like to have a lot of, but it’s pretty pleasant and tasteful anyway. 131004
