Gedronken @ bierproefavond. Perzik mango geur. Amber kleurig troebel biertje met weinig schuim. Smaakt naar koriander, sinaasappel. Voornamelijk zoet.

A hazy orange-golden beer with a sweet fruity earthy and vanilla flavour, almond notes with a warming creamy, spicy fruity finish.

With high hopes after tasting the brilliant ’Johnny’ I had to get into this one. As high as you get the further you have to fall - that was this beer. At cellar temperature it poured all unexcitedly into a shallow snifter. Insipid, murky pastel orange with a bad case of the floaties. No head bar a ring of muck on the meniscus. Buttery, doughy and sticky nose dominated by caramelised apricots, marmalade and dried figs with evident alcohol. Palate is yeasty, pasty and slick. Alcohol is more reserved than I anticipated but there is a light warmth on the finish. Tangerines, mandarins, navels, in fact this is just all oranges. Dries out well in the finish. Low malt, soft biscuity note, bread dough and almond meal mid-palate and in the swallow. Body is cumbersome yet light and the carbonation too prickly. It is a beer, a strong beer and little else. Feel bloated after drinking it and am just left in dire need of a ’Johnny’ (33cL, BBE 09/12, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

33cl bottle from the brewery. They label this as a barley wine. Pours a cloudy orange-copper colored body with a finger-width, frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is smooth, lightly sweetened caramels with hints of toffee bread, a light spicy hop note, hints of dark fruits, and a touch of citrus. Flavor is similar. Lightly sweetened caramels with a touch of bread and a balanced, somewhat spicy hopping throughout. A few citrus hints and touches of dark fruit before this finishes clean and dry with a medium bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-full body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a fairly straightforward barley wine, but balanced and flavorful with a clean finish. Pretty good beer.
