Bottle. Clear amber, offwhite creamy lace, floaties due to my rough handling. Citruspeel, ginger and marzipan aroma, a hint wood and smoke. Strong and sweet fermented fruit base, dry spices and hops, lemongrass, sugarcane. Fullbodied, dry. Fruit, clay, wood finish. Grows on me after a little while.

Aroma: bread, caramel, a bit of raisins and belgian yeast. Golden colour with nice, but small head. Cloudy. Light sweetness, not very bitter. Medium body. Well hidden alcohol. Don’t know why it’s written "Barley wine" on the label. It’s definitely Belgian Strong Ale.

Like most offerings from Brouwerij de Prael, this just seems really boozy. Not a spectacular example of the style by any stretch of the imagination.

Pours pretty hazy amber with a quick disappearing white head and a decent lacing. Pretty malty aroma (caramel, cereals...). Slightly yeasty. Small notes of hops also. Some small notes of fruits as well. Tastes sweet and bitter in the beginning. Bit spicy on the tongue as well. Aftertaste goes with a strong warmish sense of the present alcohol. But it’s mainly bitterness that survives in the long run. Full bodied, thick texture and a pretty average carbonation. The beer tends to be pretty drinkable due to the bitterness. However, the warmishness in the aftertaste hints enough to let you know to be careful with this pretty ’soft’ 9.6%-beer. Dangerous tripel. Not a bad brew. Not astonishing as well. Reminds me of many other tripels.

Bottle, bb 5-2013 (16 months past bb date). Pours hazy dark golden with a white head. Aroma: wood, red fruit, liquorice root. Taste: sweet grapes, apple sauce, strawberry, candy sugar, apricot, lots if overripe fruity flavours. Very sweet, light bitter, some sourness, full bodied, almost nonexistant carbonation. The alcohol is well hidden. Sweet but tart finish.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BB 06/15, at Leijuva Lahna, 20140906) The beer poured amber and hazy. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, caramel and fruitiness. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, ripe fruits, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, fruity and bitter. A decenet barley wine with a Belgian twist.
