Very fine brown ale. Nice balance with the alcohol and the caramel/ hay/ coffee flavor. Goes very fine with a winter dish.

Taste is muddled, metallic, caramel, iron, overriding dull brown sugar sweetness, malty, overripe fruit,… Muddled body. Yeast excess, murky, dull brown sugar sweet, touch molasses, nope, another BE-style mess honestly.

33 cl bottle @ hotel room, Amsterdam. BBE 06/2015
Quite light aroma with some apricot and fruit candy. Flavour has lots of toffee typical to Belgian ales, some apricot and rich yeasty tones. Juicy tones with fruits in the finish. Gets some fruity and sugary sweet tones towards the end of the glass. Nothing offensive here but nothing special either. A barley wine in Belgian way. Alcohol does not come through at all but still this feels a bit thin. How did they do it?

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slightly hazy amber with small head that leaves quite a bit of lacing. Very sweet, foam candy, dried red fruits, strawberry, dough, spices. Full bodied with full carbonation. Nice stuff but you have to be in the mood for something very sweet. Has some wit-like characteristics.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Quite sweet, even for a barley wine but you feel the percentage. Score should be higher but the aroma and appearance aren’t too great. Warming.
