3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled 30cl Tnx Edo. Dark brown color, good creamy beige head. A bit odd toasted-nutty aroma. Medium-bodied. Sticky, toasted flavor with nuts, brown sugar, rye bread and alcohol. Feels unbalanced.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Bockbier Festival in Amsterdam. Pours a near clear amber with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of peat, smoke and wood with a dark grain backbone. Flavor has some peat note that gives a touch of bandaid and a dark grain.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
330 ml long-neck bottle, at home. Poured into a snifter. ABV 7.7%, heavy alcohol on this bock, letís see.
Dark brown colour, very dark, almost black. Two full fingers of beige head on top, thick and soapy, with very good retention, leaving light off-white lacine around the glass.
Aroma of roasted malts and a bit of the alcohol. Faint stewed fruits aroma as well.
Taste is sweet, I canít say that it has a specific flavour that stands out. Just a flat sweetness. It becomes much more interesting on the aftertaste though, with roasted malts, offering a nice bitterness, while the almonds are there, but way back on the background and very discreet, in fact so discreet that Iím not sure if I am tasting them or I just imagine it. The high alcohol is very well hidden.
Full body, good amount of carbonation.
Good bock beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This tastes more like a stout than a dutch bokbier as gets very heavy on roasted malts. I donít get the almonds, but I donít know the regular Nelis. Good feel and all in all decent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slightly hazy reddish amber brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of almond, red fruits, HCN and black olives. Sweet malty flavour, caramel, nuts, bitter roasted malts, light smoke. Finish caramel and roasted malts.
Nice and quite nutty. Might be the best of the three.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from trade with Bierkonig. Deep ruby-hued brown body with a large, creamy off-white head. Lovely looks. Nose is definitely nutty, with almonds coming in first, followed by an array of deep malty and caramel-toffee-like tones. Taste is chocolate, nuts (not so much almonds as just general nutty flavors), hints of burnt toast, grains and brown sugar. Almonds do appear after all, in the very last part of the finish, lasting a bit into the aftertaste. Full, creamy body and soft carbonation. Some toast-like astringency in the aftertaste as well, which pulls down the score somewhat. Otherwise, a very nice doppelbock. Wonder if they actually put almonds in it, and if so: how? Fatty nuts do not work wonders in beer...
