Aroma een licht rokertje, ingehouden zoet als Bock. Smaak is gebroken zoet als kaneel met vanille ijs en karamel met gebrande noten. Kraag plakkerig op roebel bruinrood.

Decent doppelbock, with the taste of a ’normal’ bock. Bit spicy and malty.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at De Spuyt. Hazy deep red pour with thin off white foam. Aroma of tart cherries, berries, light toasted malt, anise. Taste is tart, light roasty notes, acid dark malts, tart cherries. Palate is thin, a bit acid, watery, with medium carbonation. Not bad, but definitely a strange acidic/fruity concoction. Hmm.

Bottle at home, 330 ml. Served into a snifter. ABV 7.4%
Pours a deep red brown colour on the body, with a big off white head. Thick in density. Very good retention and nice looking lacing left behind.
Aroma of fruits, light bubblegum, roasted malts.
Taste begins sweet and turns quickly to a bitter one, with long duration. Caramel, red fruits, roasted malts, light chocolate.
Medium thick body, low carbonation.
A very good bock.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2013 Tap at De Prael. Clear dark red brown, small off-white head, stays a while, thin layer remains; sweet spicy/herbal nose, roasty, grains, herbal, spicy (cloves), nutty undertones, hint of orange; medium sweet taste, slightly sour, light sweet fruit syrup sensation; medium to full body, oily texture, soft carbonation; smooth sweetbitter finish with fruity undertones, bit roasty. Bottle. Opaque red brown, big tan head, nice lacing: sweet fruits syrup nose, light bubblegum, roasted malts; taste at first sweet, turns into medium bitterness with hint sourness; medium body, creamy mouthfeel but on the thin side; finish roasty bitter and some syrup fruit. The bottled version has more bitterness, maybe a wee less than tap but not worth changing rating (131123).

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20
At just on cool and into a snifter. Settles a muddy, murky near black liquor with fine, sluggish carbonation. Lasting is the tannish, dense crop of foam atop. Rich, toffee’d malts, caramelised prunes, dates, sultanas, rust and blood, eucalypt and a waft of rum and raisin pudding make up one complex aroma. Rusty, bordering astringent sweet malts dominate the palate giving it a sticky, just off cloying feel. A little chemical, almost like enamel paint comes through, varnish perhaps. Body is lean, carbonation a little biting. Had to swirl it about a bit to free it up. Long, woody, burnt toast finish doesn’t exactly sit on my best side. What a let down, and it started off so well. I just didn’t enjoy drinking it. Watery and thin given that wonderful aroma. (33cL, 7.4% ABV, BBE 07/12, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

33 cl. bottle split with Marko & Sam. Procured online. Pours a dark murky brown with a smallish mocha head. Nose is very sweetish, like syrup and cheap liquid chocolate, touch bitter and lightly hoppy. Taste is quite sweet, syrup heavy, lightly sticky, cheap chocolate syrup in a good way, caramel, toffee, choco puffs, feels a bit altered, asorti chocolate musli, light hops,… Lighter syrupy body – wow quite enjoyable, totally exceeded my expectations. A lovely bock. Still wonder if they didn’t tamper a bit with this, not that, that would change my level of enjoyment of this.
