ALLOVATE (2142) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - MAY 24, 2013
At just on cool and into a snifter. Settles a muddy, murky near black liquor with fine, sluggish carbonation. Lasting is the tannish, dense crop of foam atop. Rich, toffee’d malts, caramelised prunes, dates, sultanas, rust and blood, eucalypt and a waft of rum and raisin pudding make up one complex aroma. Rusty, bordering astringent sweet malts dominate the palate giving it a sticky, just off cloying feel. A little chemical, almost like enamel paint comes through, varnish perhaps. Body is lean, carbonation a little biting. Had to swirl it about a bit to free it up. Long, woody, burnt toast finish doesn’t exactly sit on my best side. What a let down, and it started off so well. I just didn’t enjoy drinking it. Watery and thin given that wonderful aroma. (33cL, 7.4% ABV, BBE 07/12, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

33 cl. bottle split with Marko & Sam. Procured online. Pours a dark murky brown with a smallish mocha head. Nose is very sweetish, like syrup and cheap liquid chocolate, touch bitter and lightly hoppy. Taste is quite sweet, syrup heavy, lightly sticky, cheap chocolate syrup in a good way, caramel, toffee, choco puffs, feels a bit altered, asorti chocolate musli, light hops,… Lighter syrupy body – wow quite enjoyable, totally exceeded my expectations. A lovely bock. Still wonder if they didn’t tamper a bit with this, not that, that would change my level of enjoyment of this.

Marko (3635) - Split, CROATIA - MAR 13, 2013
Bottled, shared with 77ships (thanks!). Poured a murky dark brown body with a small off white head. Propolis and malt in the aroma, sweet. Well rounded coffee-like maltiness in the taste, only marred by a slightly overzealous carbonation. Nicely sweetish, but far from being overly sweet. All in all, surprisingly nice, reminded me in some ways of Tomislav, only more subdued.

7.4% bottle from Mam & Dad’s holiday, Holland. A dark brown beer that pours with a large foamy head. It has rich red fruit, chocolate and liquorice flavours with sweet fruit and warmth on the finish.

A full flavoured doppelbock. Roasty, chocolate, with hints of coffee. Not too strong. A nice surprise.

Draft@ brewpub. Dark brown, mahogany color, light tanned head. Aroma is malty, slight coffee and touch of caramel. Flavor has hints if the coffee and is quite bitter for a bock. Quite nice.

Dark chocolate brown huge lacing cappucino foam. Fresh citric and fruity aroma note, candied fruit - dubbel like. Medium to light dry body, foamy mouthfee. Light roast notes, salty dryness from the yeast, big fresh citrus notes. Very easy drinkable, like a quaffable lemontart. A bit more chewyness and this would be perfect.

The head is ok, the body red-brown. It smells sweet, chestnut, roasty, full bodied. The taste is very creamy, roasty, chestnut, full bodied. Overall very nice and a good beer for herfst! 12/12/13/12/-/12
