Draught: Small to medium vast light brown head on top of a deep dark brown to black colored beer. Smell spices, light roasted malts, nuts, barley and herbs. Taste is a good firm bitterness with hints of roasted malts, raisin, barleys, nuts, sweets, roasted grains. Nice, soft and smooth! Roasted bitter aftertaste. Low to medium carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to fuller body and a creamy sticky texture. Well balanced, tasty and very smooth.

Light sweet roastiness for the aroma. Deep brown in color with a slight white head. Roasty, nutty flavor with moderate sweetness.

Sampled on tap at the brew pub. Pours an almost opaque, mahogany brown with a creamy, off white head. Nose is a little yeasty, some dark malt, a little sugar, otherwise mild. Flavor is really solid, dark pumpernickel bread, sweet, malty, yeasty. Flavor finishes with a great chocolate note. Medium bodied, dry finish. Wish this had a better nose because the rest of this is strong.

Dark copper beer with a nice lacing beige head. Sweet caramel, toffee and coffee nose. Sweet candy sugar taste with a roasted flavor, cinnamon and some spices, oily palate, moderated aftertaste of roasted grains. Nice beer, i liked it:)

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2005 Cloudy brown beer with a nice tan head. Very german nose, malts, caramel and some fruits. Sweet taste, starts with that typical Prael-yeast flavour, gets overwhelmed by dark fruits, but ends in a very nice chocolaty-malts way. Quite wellbodied actually, according to other ratings I’d say that this has improved this year.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Dark reddish brown with a creamy tan head. Good nutty caramel aroma. Tastes of molasses, caramel and dry notes from nuts. Hints of raisins. Quite likeable.

Clear mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma had roasted malt, caramel, hops and prunes. Flavour had roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and hoppy notes. Finished somewhat dry and bitter. Not bad.
