Marstonlad (525) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 23, 2014
Bottle at Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki. Pours black with a little white head. The aroma has plenty of overripe fruitiness, plum, raisin, berries and a touch of vanilla - gives a very sweet impression. Taste is very sweet, even a bit cloying. The flavours include berries, raisin and caramel; some alcohol also appears near the finish. The palate is medium to full bodied, a bit sticky and moderate in carbonation. The taste is not quite as balanced as the best beers of this style.

33cl bottle (11,5%) @ PBF Ⅸ
Aroma has strong licorice tones and some roasted tones. Also some alcohol. Flavour has malt, medicine tones ans some licorice. Medicine-lice licorice overdose all the way.

33 cl bottle @ PBF IX.
Pours clear dark ruby red color with a small head. Caramel and malts on the aroma, some faint spice notes. Caramel and lots and lots of berries on the flavor, way too much for my taste, some yeasty notes also. Medium-bodied. A great disappointment.

Bottle @ home, 11%. Aroma is liquorice, roast, acidic red fruits (?) some yeasty notes. Flavour is caramel, roast, liquorice and again the red fruit notes. I think these are the first signs of an infection. Weird red fruit vinegar sidenote. Not bad but not meant this way.

Dark, ruby color, slightly cloudy. Aroma of prunes, maybe raisins, a lot of caramel and dark malts. Tastes sweet and a little bit sour, dried fruits with some brown sugar and spices. Soft carbonation, alcohol is perceptible in the throat. A very nice beer.
