Tawny color, little and short lasting head. Faint alcohol, spice, and green apples for aroma. Sugar sweet, carmel malt, apples, grapes, dust, and alcohol spice for taste. Stinging carbonation on the tounge. This is ok, not a real shining star. However, it does grow on you after a while.

Cloudy orange pour with a fluffy off-white head. Fruity esters on the nose. Slightly acidic cherry flavor with notable hints of hops and malts

This is overall a pretty good dubbel, in appearance aroma and flavor. Spicy, crisp, but without any of the funkiness that sometimes gets me with the dubbel style. A nice brew, but not worth the $10.

Caged corked 750 ml. bottle, no bottling/freshness date, (AN 71) on the cork, sampled in a goblet glass. L: Sunburnt auburn with a rocky beige colored head that rose quickly before slowly sinking into a thin sudsy skim. The carbonation is quite active, it only takes a couple of swirls of the glass to get the head to rise again. Splotchy layers of lace rings the brim of the goblet, over time, the layers turn into lace dots. S: Bright fruity aromas of apples, dates and figs, further whiffs bring out a blend of oranges and bananas. At the edges is traces of caramel, clovey spices with a minuscule pinch of white pepper, and baked bread. The alcohol is only noticeable by mingling with the fruity esters that waft into the nose. F: Respectable mouthfeel, the lively, but soft carbonation lends itself a to mildly firm light body that finishes on a nimbly crisp note. I would have liked just a touch more creamy heftiness in the mouthfeel, otherwise, no real complaints. T: The taste of Angelique can grow a bit tedious over the course of a bottle, it lacks the complexity of a truly above average Dubbel, let alone a first rate one. Watery sweet fruit flavors, dates and figs covered with a light sprinkle of sugar, followed by watery sour tastes of oranges and apple skins. As I near the end, spicy caramel and grainy bread tastes crop up, helping to soak up the watery fruit flavors. Drying specks of pepper and spicy hops come close to saving what is a rather bland and watery favored finish. Close, but not enough to raise my score. D: Angelique is the last of the four Belgian ales from Andelot Proefbrouwerij that I purchased at a Trader Joe’s in St. Louis and I have to say that it is also my least favorite. The Dubbel style can offer a rich panorama of malty flavors to go along with a luscious mouthfeel, but for me, Angelique just falls short in meeting the expectations of the style. This bottle was cheap enough, but the taste leaves me with no desire to purchase another.

750ml bottle from BevMo. Hazy copper body topped by a medium beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, cookie, some orange, light raisin. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some orange, yeasty spicy, cherry, faint astringency. Watery medium body.
