Beershine (1059), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Bottle. Warm orange-brown with big thick long-lasting cappuccino foam-like head, leaving lots of rich sponge painting lacing on the glass. Nose is pina colada. At first too sweet and candy-like but is also entertaining. Enough sourness (not tartness) in the body balances the sweetness. Good example of the difference between sour and tart. Some guava, custard apple. Fun, enjoyable, entertaining.
Oakes (6793), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 Hazy golden, with a very thick head. Very spicy yeast aroma wiht accents of banana, pineapple and coriander. Very sweet, quity spicy but farly well balanced. This is growing on me as I work through it. greenleaf (80), Florida, USA May 4, 2008 750 bottle. Caged corked 750 ml. bottle, no bottling/freshness date, EU78 on the cork, sampled in a tulip glass.
L: Slightly hazy, orangey golden appearance with a fluffy eggshell white head that slowly sank in a thin sudsy skim. A good deal of splotchy curtain-like lace hugs the glass, this has the look of your classic Belgian Pale Ale.
S: Golden pears and apples framed by cardamon, clove and white pepper spices, the fruity esters and spices meshes with the alcohol for a mildly potent, but pleasantly luscious nose. Further whiffs reveals the subtle smells of a yeast earthy, freshly baked loaf of French bread.
F&T: Airy and moderate bodied, softly firm feeling from the active carbonation, a nice creamy crispness in it’s finish, this has the mouthfeel of a well crafted Belgian Pale Ale. Lip smacking, tart fruity tastes of golden pears and yellow apples. Touches of candied sugar, cardamon and clove, along with light pinches of salt and pepper, enhance the tart fruits, reminds me of the homemade baked pear and apple pies my mom would make for special occasions. As you near the end, this becomes quite earthy and honey bready, plus a soft herbal leafy, spicy hop bitterness comes out, imparting a cleanly quick, dry finish.
This has the thirst-quenching, mouthwatering dryness I love in a good BPA, incredibly smooth and easy drinkability, I’m glad I picked a few bottles of this yesterday because I am going to spend the rest of this Saturday evening sipping this highly enjoyable pale ale.
