Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 Bottle, Demon fish I believe. Pours a nice hazy straw color. Band-aidy aroma dominates making it hard to sense other components. Some funky aromas and a touch of sour, but not nearly as much as I expected from this bottle. Flavor is strange and kind of hollow, more band-aid like the nose. As I drink my glass I begin to notice some more hop aroma and flavor. Not really that enjoyable in my opinion. I expected much more from DeProef. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Feb 17, 2008 Updated: Aug 29, 2008Surly Bird. Poured cloudy yellow, foamy white head. Armoa is sour, doughy. Flavor is yeasty, mildy sour, barnyard, toffee notes, lemony, brettanomyces. Finish is musty and slightly sweet.
Second entry--bottled as Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Cloudy yellow pour, fizzy whiote head. Nose was yeast, lemon pie, spice. Taste was citrus, yeast, candy sugar, lemon drops. Finish was funky--brettanomyces, dry. jeremytoni (1069), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Feb 10, 2008 From a bottle (Pig Nun) poured slightly hazy golden color with a fair amount of head. Sour flavor muted a little, with a lingering finish. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Feb 9, 2008 750 mL bottle of Pig Nun. Clear amber pour with some white head on top. Nice strong sour fruity aroma. Fruity grape taste as it hit my mouth. Gives way to bitter, earthy flavors, with a little bit of spice. A really yeasty finish. Slight sourness to start, I was expecting more from the aroma. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Feb 9, 2008 Reinaert Flemish Wild: 750 ml bottle in Westmalle glass. Golden yellow with lasting flat white head. Lemon meringue pie, candy sugar, spice, and funky old lemon aroma. Mild honey/vanilla/marshmallow sweetness fruity tart funk tobacco spice bitterness. Lingering spice. Medium body and carbo. Faint alcohol as it warms. Quite complex with a delightful funk that makes me wonder if this is what beer tasted like a long time ago. Very enjoyable. Ingy (100), candler, North Carolina, USA Feb 9, 2008 bottle, spoon whacker. cloudy copper in color, tart, sour, dry and crisp. Vinegar, sour apple, funk and bitter. Ambivolent at first, I enjoyed it more with each sip. Never got to the point that I really liked it. My wife referred to it as the "terrible beer" Maddog (231), Kettering, Ohio, USA Feb 3, 2008 Really enjoyed this one. 750 mL bottle called Flemish Wild Ale purchased at Belmont Party Supply in Dayton, OH. Slightly tart with grapefruit. A very easy, drinkable beer for being a 9%. Love the amarillo hops. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Jan 28, 2008 Bottle, Surly Bird. Pours coppery color with a decent sized white head. Aroma is bretty, musky, earth, some fruit. Flavor is earthy, light citrus, apple, yeast, spice.
