mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Mar 28, 2009 Bottle at DuffmanSWs beer tasting. Weird. Pours a hazy kidney infection pissy yellow with a decent fluffy white head. Strange aroma of horseblanket, vanilla, and some medicinal qualities. Band aids too. Flavor is thin and boring with a weird, unappetizing funny bitterness and everything else stated in the aroma, tastes watery. Mouthfeel is low-medium and carbonation is high. Not my cup of tea. Blake (213), Orange, California, USA Mar 27, 2009 A clear golden color with miniscule bubbles, a nice, lasting head and good lacing. The initial aroma is tart, with hints of sweetness, honey. A musty smell when agitated, very earthy.
Flavors are light, like the color. Very earthy flavors to complement the smell. The finish is a bit spicy, but not too overpowering. Overall, a strong flemish ale, but I have had better. I’d say middle of the pack. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Mar 27, 2009 Cloudy golden in color with a rocky head that leaves white lacing down the sides of the glass. Aromas of crusty bread and mustard. Also a sharp lemon smell. Surprisingly light. Rustic yeasts, some cherry, some vanilla, some apricot, and a spicy finish -- hot with alcohol. The primitive label makes sense. Powerful brew. Unapologetic. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Mar 25, 2009 750ml bottle split with DeputyAndy. Got from New Beer nyc. Bottle reads Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Sour ester coriander nose. Some sediment in this cloudy orangeyellow brew w/ white fluffy head. Awesome lacework, A+. Mouth is very bitter with farmhouse funk tang. Finishes short with ripe carbonation. Back of the tongue is bitter/sour. One of the most interesting grain/hay/farmhouse flavors. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 22, 2009 The look is cloudy, orange to golden in color, with a lacy white head. Heavy sediment. The smell is tart, fruits, yeast, brett, funk, horsey, and barnyard. The taste is funk, earth, some dryness, fruits, yeast, and barnyard. DeputyAndy (60), New Jersey, USA Mar 22, 2009 Beautiful pour wit ha strong, tart nose. Nice amounts of sediment with a thing to medium head. Really thin taste but complex. Nice use of multiple hops. Tart flavor with good carbonation and a short and sweet finish. Nice beer. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Mar 21, 2009 Bottle labeled "Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale". Hazy gold with a decent sized white head. Aroma is of yeast, grain, spices, earth. Taste is very spicy with lots of yeast and notes of earth, dirt, funk and hay. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 14, 2009 750 ml, Reinaert version, cunning fox label. Orange-gold with a small, lasting cream above. Aroma is cream, corn, honey, dried herbs, and just a hint of sour. Flavor begins with creamed corn and becomes more tart with grape must and woody-earthy hops. Some spicy dry banana and lemon-honey tea later, and then a beeswax and cork finish. Maybe some wheat too. Complex taste profile but some horsey-funk, fish, saltwater, acidic honey and spicy banana notes become a bit dominant after half a glass. Medium body is slightly watery, acidic-tingly and fairly light on the carbonation. Nice cobwebs of lacing.
