polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Feb 3, 2009 Bottle. Aroma has notes of lemon, leather, wood, musky yeast, and barnyard. Light gold amber hue with a large frothy white head that lasted and left great lace. Flavor is sweet and bitter with some sourness. Palate is light bodied and watery soft. Not bad at all, the horse piss/shit smell is kind of a turn off but other than that it was a decent beer. m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA Feb 1, 2009 Rat Rider Bottle - Pours with a murky golden hue with a small white head that is mostly diminishing.
Aroma is very fruity, with some hops. A tad of muskiness in the nose as well. Spicy too!
Watery beginning flavor turns into a medium bitter finish.
Taste of citrus all the way through - bitter grapefuit at the end.
Best way to describe the taste - if you took a time machine and traveled back into the middle ages, around the time when Charles Martel and Charlemagne reigned in France, this is what the beer would taste like. It is definitely primitive and wild!!!
Light to medium mouthfeel with light carbonation.
Not a bad brew!
arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 30, 2009 $10 750ml Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale.and a fox on the label. I’ve been pleased with previous De Proef offerings so why not? Clear golden yellow color with an initial smell of acidic tomatos. That is quickly replaced some grassy alcohol and possibly urine. Not bad! Tastes like a wild tripel just a slight bit of bretty funk very easy to drink. Not sour at all sadly but it probably is not supposed to be.

Fruity aroma with some bretty funk, apricot, apple and peach notes. Sweetish flavor with a bit of malt, light funky hints, fruits and spiciness. A rather bitter finish with some hops. Yeasty taste towards the bottom of the bottle. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Less bretty than what I hoped for but still tasty. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottled as Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Poured slightly hazy medium golden with a swirly cap of white head. The aroma was sour and wild as indicated with a significant oaky presence.. dried, dusty spices showcased an engaging yeast strain and bugs.. musty on the back.. I enjoyed it. The flavor opened with mildly sour oak and lemony notes, opening into a light fruity core (didn’t provide much more than support).. finished dry with pepper and clovey spices. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate with a rather light overall sourness (but it worked well).. very good brew. Nik925 (300), California, USA Jan 23, 2009 "the cunning fox" version ? (these seem like different beers.) Soapy head that lingers, but isn’t that thick. Not a good style definition in my opinion. Golden, light, with strong sour afternotes which compete with band-aid flavors. While that sounds bad, its quite good. Brett dominates the aroma, but is not nearly as dominate on taste. The yeast taste would have worked better over a sweeter beer with more malt flavors going on. The light golden malt is obliterated by the yeast flavor. Worth drinking to experience the yeast flavors, but the beer never fully comes together. slimchill (773), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 16, 2009 Bottle (Reinaert). Nose is sweet, spicy, and phenolic. Peaches and strawberries, coriander, and leathery brettanomyces aromas. Cloudy gold with a thin head and active carbonation. Flavor is dominated by a somewhat one-dimensional, rubbery young brett character, but light fruit and spice notes play in the background. Good carbonation and body. Nice if uncomplex, highly enjoyable. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 31, 2008 Hazy amber with medium off white head. Sourish aroma with woody and malty notes. Flavour likewise with brett notes to follow up.
