A hazy orange beer with a fine head. The aroma is sweet with distinct notes of yeast and apples. The flavor is sweet yeasty and very spicy with a dry ending. A nice beer.

(Bottle 75 cl) Pours a hazy golden with a creamy, white head leaving a neat lacework. Some traces of Brett in the aroma. Only a medium body, very dry with a vague underlying tang. Brewed for the American market where there seems to be a constant demand for Brett - also in other styles than Gueuze/Lambic. For a Belgian this is not the real McCoy, but still itís quite fresh. Thanks to Degarth for sharing. 090406

Bottled, labelled Vlaamse Primitief Wild Ale.
Cloudy golden. Aroma of honey and yeasty with a light touch of lemon. Sweetish with dense, rounded mouthfeel and notes of nutmeg. So flowery itís like chewing on a flower. Resiny, herbal finish.

Distincly water chesnut like in a way that strongly invoked íDeusí but not as srongly flavoured as that beer, this is also more hoppy. Dry finish with a lingering and bitter water chesnut aftertaste.

Cloudy blond color. Very difficult to describe, but surely disgusting! Corky, sour, too bitter.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 05. Bit of dirty gold colour with lasting off white head. Bit of sourness, bit sickly in mouth then goodish hops on the end. I did not get what others did out of it.

Green label. The difference in the labels is slight differences in the hop variations, but itís basically the same beer (importerís words, and I agree). Pale, slightly hazy appearance. Aroma is fruity (apple). Flavour is slighlty minerally, yeasty, with a "green" hoppiness. A bit odd, definitely Belgian, maybe primitive, though after sorghum beer itís a tough case to make.
Earlier Rating: 8/17/2003 Total Score: 3.3
Yellow, cloudy. Some bretty aroma notes, with nutmeg, bread and grapefruit. Palate is slightly astringent, with peachiness. The aroma hinted at a greater degree of acidity than there actually is. It also hinted at more funk that there actually is. The palate overall is kind of minerally. It smelled like so much more...

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2005 (750ml bottle, Pig Nun label, Fall 2004 vintage) Pours a lightly cloudy orange body with a moderate off-white head. Heavenly sourness (apple) in the aroma with butterscotch and dustiness. Flavor of sour apple, yeast, and earthiness. Somewhat bitter finish.
Earlier Rating: 12/1/2004 Total Score: 3.9
(bottle) Pours a cloudy yellow with floaties and a small white head. Aroma of yeast, grapefruit, sour apples, and spices. Tart flavor. Nice complexity and balance.
