| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 27, 2007 The aroma kept this beer from being my first 4. The aroma has what one would expect from a beer called wild ale. There is a definite wild yeast element along with bread dough, bananas, and herbs. The appearance is hazy gold with a three finger head. The flavor is lacking the acidic sour taste that I have come to expect from a wild smelling beer. IT tastes very much like a sour dough bread with herbs. There is a strong dough taste here as well as mint. The palate is thick. This is a really cool beer! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Bottle: Pours an effervescent golden with a thin white head. Nice aroma- sweet and funky simultaneously. Some leather, cinnamon, vanilla yogurt, apple crisp and golden raspberries. Has lively carbonation with a sweet and spicy flavor. Caramelized/baked apple, mild cinnamon, earthy/herbal notes of honey suckle, touch of butterscotch, and light peppery alcohol. Towards the finish is a subtle leather touch. A pretty nice Belgian Ale, unique. puzzl (2661), New York, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2007 Not sure which bottle this was. Bretty, fruity, cat-piss aroma. Tomato and celery, garlic salt. Very unique in that regard. Cat piss is strong in the flavor, with notes of spinach, celery, very dry yeast. Totally different, would be much more enjoyable if it didn’t smell like a litterbox! Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 9, 2003 The beer pours a blurry lemon yellow color, the head is substantial in size, creamy in consistency, bright white in color and as it dissolves, and a thick and glutinous sheet of lace is left behind to seal off the glass. The nose is a bit medicinal, sweet malt, citrus like, with the start sweet and loaded with malt, top is middling in feel. Finish is tart as in lemon like, the acidity cautious, the hops spicy in their bite and the herbal like tones are quite evident. Dry aftertaste, and a beer that I will need to re-sample as I really don’t find it bad, but not good either, different, the medicinal aroma and taste is disturbing to my palate.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 21, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear, yellow body with a small, unassuming white head.
Smell: Gah! Extremely funky doesn’t even begin to describe it. It’s like a huge hunk of Stilton wrapped in a horse blanket and smothered in rotten, zombified fruit husks and topped with a drizzle of high-quality honey.
Taste: Light breadiness with a large amount of melted blue cheese, who’s flavor grows more and more as time goes on. Sharp, funky flavor like chowing down on a pair of swimming trunks forgotten in a car trunk for a couple weeks in the middle of summer, and though I’d never imagine myself saying this about a beer, here goes: it’s painfully cheesy. Vague fruitiness, like molded melon rinds. There’s a drying bitterness throughout, particularly on the spicy, sour finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: These De Proef Flemish Primitive beers really put you to work, don’t they? tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 29, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, biegaman & blankboy. -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Labelled Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Hazy dark yellow, small foamy white head. Strong alcohol, spice, sweet malt, hint of sourness in aroma. Taste - lots of alcohol, way too much right up front. This is followed by stale malt, weird fruitiness (almost banana skin like), and either hops or sourness at the end, I really couldn’t tell. Long alcohol burn. Not sure how exactly this is a sour Flemish ale. Love the aroma, but this beer is way too harsh to be enjoyable. Pailhead (2610), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 23, 2005 Bottle: Surly Bird release. Creamy fruit, yeast, and light tartness in the aroma. Pours a hazy yellow with a moderate white head with great lacing. Lightly fruity with some moderate yeast flavors. Light hints of sourness in the middle. Moderate flowery hops in the finish.
