3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jokes (1453) - Chicago, USA - FEB 14, 2005
Pig Nun. Hazy, golden sunset beneath a thin layer of fluffy, white clouds. A rather subtle, slightly fruity aroma. Granny-smith apples, light flowers, peach skins, dry biscuits, light barnyard, light toasted cereals, honey and a small amount of peppery alcohol. The body is fairly light and effervescent, reminiscent of an elegant tripel. Flavors are fairly sweet with a light layer of funky barnyard before a mild bitterness at the finish. The finish is light and slightly warming. An interesting beer and one I was looking forward to trying. It seems that all of the right elements were there, but it just doesn’t work out as well as it seems it should. Tasty and interesting, but not wholly satisfying. Earlier Rating: 1/22/2004 Total Score: 4.1 Surprisingly light in color, light golden yellow and almost clear. Virtually no head. The aroma is strong and very reminiscent of a mild lambic. Tons of Brett, giving the familiar horse blanket, straw and various other "natural" products. Sort of thin and light in the body. The flavor has all sort of strong Brett tendencies, however they are all light and unassuming. There is great flavor of light citrus, dry hay, a touch of sweetness and a substantial tartness that gives it a unique spin. This is a great beer and probably a wonderful entry beer into sour beers. Very similar to a lambic in many ways but perhaps more approachable than most lambics. Oh yeah, and the alcohol is so well-hidden, I forgot it was 9%. Drink this if you can get it.

Plain and without character. A little bit bitter. Personally I don't like it.

Slightly cloudy dark gold. Disappaiting white head. Brett and yeast on the nose. A good mix of sour/yeasty flavors and hints of fresh apple and pear. Like a saison/Lambic mixture. Clean, fresh fizzy mouthfeel and a palate cleansing finish. Food friendly.

Pours a crisp golden color with a big fluffly head that floats along and never really wants to leave... Nice aromas of brett, granny smith apple, and a touch of pepper... lead into a crisp beer with a good balance between funky tartness and sweet malts. Great earthy flavors of leather, hay, straw a touch of lemon peel moving through from beginning to end and the finish is dry with an almost mineral quality.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Spelt (221) - East Kingston, New Hampshire, USA - APR 25, 2012
Very light banana and apricot notes. Very hazy golden yellow with nice pillowy bright white head. Flavor is rather flat. Nothing very prominent. Very light grainy, bready note. Light bitterness at finish. Very dry. OK to try but nothing I’ll search out again.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 Beerenberger (190) - Fischer, Texas, USA - APR 25, 2012
Pours a pale golden yellow with a aggressive white head and plentiful lacing. The aroma is of apples and straw. The taste is earthy with some apple (horse apples) notes. The sourness found in the middle is subtle. The pallet is medium-light with some carbonation present. The finish is a refreshing hopped bitterness. All in all, an ok beer. However, I was hoping for more sourness. Would not buy again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a light tan color with huge head that almost overflows. Smells of fruit, apricots and spice. Pretty sour notes and not overly boozy. Very well balanced. Delicious all around

Orange-gold with lovely, tufted, white head / Delicate, earthy nose of orchard fruit and brett / Medium body, mildly tart and resinous, hint of sweetness, with great balance and lightly bitter finish / Perfumed flavors of orange, apple, pear, lemon, honey, stone, straw, and barnyard / Great stuff.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Brigadier (1940) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - MAR 15, 2012
750 ml bottle
This bottle was a treat to celebrate settling in. Had I known how good it was I might have purchased a second bottle. It seems to have some aging potential but I don’t know how long it would last. Regardless of whether it is 35 degrees of 85 degrees this style is perfect for any occasion.
Aroma / Appearance - The golden carbonated body is coupled with a soft flowery head. The impression is almost like a glass of ginger ale topped by Cool Whip. Lemons, wild yeast, and a crisp bone dry bite gnaw at the senses very effectively.
Flavor / Palate - Yeasty apple crisps, lemon crisp, and then a transition to cotton candy precede a dry sharp finish. It is not vinegary so much as the feeling from a good bottle of champagne paired with sourdough bread. All around this is a goto beer.
