This is madness in a bottle. The scent of wild yeast is intense: reminds me of a used pair ex-girlfriend’s panties, which normally triggers positive emotions, but here it’s just kinda funky. Other descriptors that come to mind are cider, gym shoes, Value Village shirt racks. Flavour-wise, this shockingly malty along with being cidery and acidic. Pleasant, but the aroma/taste disconnect is nothing short of mind-bending. Glad I got to try this. It brings back great, long-lost memories. I love you, underwear beer.

750 ml bottle. Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale. Poured hazy golden in color with a large frothy white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brett, funk, and lemongrass. Tastes is lemongrass funky, earthy straw with brett, and a finish with white pepper, and other mild spices. I’d like to try this with a little age.

750ml bottle, standard text label, none of the artwork shown here. Full-on funky aroma, full of wild yeast character, brett and medicinal phenols, berryish fruit, wood and grainy malts. Cloudy medium golden color, well sedimented, with a subsiding, sparse head. Flavor is surpringly light and fruity for a beer of this magnitude, malty, sweet farmy and funky again, overall nicely balanced and flavorful for all its wildness, the brett there at the finish providing dryness and balance. Mouthfeel is smoothly effervescent and full, body is likewise full and generous. Alcohol is really a non-factor, surprisingly. Really very tasty. Thanks Chris!

Bottle at Mes’s with Loz, and Ang, thanks Mes for hosting this hastily arranged tasting 20-06-08 Pours light golden with fluffy white hedad. Some sour fruit tingle your nostrils, plus there ois also a slight mustiness and a tinge of the farmyard about this oh and some yeast and spices thrown into the mix. Tasty beer slightly sour, some spicy sweetness but also with a sour edge. Its really quite interesting and tastes like a combination of different beer styles.

This is a bottle of the SURLY BIRD. Aroma is bad, its like a sour diaper with some very faint fruit tones. Color is a pale hazy gold with good carbonation and a loose white head. Taste is as bad as the aroma. It starts with a medium body that goes down sharp. Finish is beyond bad its a sour plastic taste and a strong flavor that can only be described as dirty baby diaper. Oh my god this sucks, I have no idea why this beer has gotten this high of a rating.

Pours a nice golden color with a long lasting white head. Aroma is a bit yeasty, bready. . . smells a little biscuity. Nice flavor, not like other Flemish wild beers I’ve had. Certainly not sour at all. There’s a good malt presence here, a bit bitter, a lot malty, pretty tasty. Went great with the pork roast I had for dinner.
