2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 pushkinwow (1338) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 25, 2012
750ml bottle from Julio’s; beer manager gave this to us a couple years ago and it was tasty; bought a bottle to bring home 1 month ago and I am curious if this bottle is 2.5 years old. Tastes like a combination harvest apple cider and a mild saison. Did not enjoy it at all which is a shame. Ruby amber with an off white head. Lots of apple...can’t really can’t passed that...slightly bitter at the end.

750 ml corked and caged bottle from Julio’s Liquors. Been cellared for about 2 years now, bought it early in 2010, can’t remember what I paid. Brown amber color. Sizable fluffy off white head. Mild retention and no lace. Fruity nose of fresh strawberry and a touch of cherry. Perhaps light coco. Flavor is mostly fruit, apple and pears. Anise shows up during the finish. Nose is better than the flavors. This is rather enjoyable. I should have drunk it during warmer months. Not typical for style however, still decent.

75oml bottle poured into snifter. The aroma was pretty amazing on this one. Good amount of apple and spice in this one, needless to say I was excited to taste it. Sadly it fell short, big time. No carbonation and very little flavor. I was somewhat disappointed to say the least.

750 ml bottle shared by Derek. Thanks. Pours a nice darker amber copper pour, glowing orange edges with a healthy haze, decent sized offwhite head stays as a small ring, laces small. Aromas are bread and biscuits, touches of toast and spice. Some sweeter caramel, touches of hot ABV related heat, and vinous red fruits, some apples, touches of brown sugar. Initial is medium bodied, maybe a touch lighter. Inviting malts of toast, bread, and toffee. Some inviting vanilla, touches of cardboard, light yeastiness. Touches of spice, brown sugar, vanilla. Some decent fruity malts, red fruit and apples, light sweeter malts grow, toast and toffee, touches of oxidation. Light spice grows, vinous red fruit. Touches of sweetness, more mellow and put together than the aroma let’s on. Just a touch of dry spice, faint florals, and ABV heat on the backend. Interesting. Hard to term this a Saison..

Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours a hazy orange red with an off-white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a very earthy grain note with some dark chocolate and a hint of funk and spice. Flavor has a earthy grain note as well with a hint of chocolate and some fruits and spice. Quite muddled.
