Brian OíReilly of Sly Fox Brewing Company joins Dirk Naudts to create the fifth brew in the De Proef Brewmasterís Collaboration series. This yearís collaboration celebrates the great brewing cultures of both Philadelphia and Gent.

Broederlijke Liefde (Brotherly Love) is a slightly higher gravity interpretation of the saison style. It is fermented with two yeasts Ė a classic saison yeast as well as brettanomyces from an original gravity of 1066 (16.5 plato). These yeasts yield a dry and slightly spicy ale with a strong hint of farmhouse character that will continue to develop with age. The use of Target and Styrian Golding hops at 37 IBUs add floral aromatics and a balancing bitterness.

Broederlijke Liefde if the official Belgian collaboration ale of Philly Beer Week 2011. If you canít join us in Philadelphia for our annual celebration in June please enjoy this creation in your own celebration of the international brewing community.

Scooped this up at Samís when it was there for a minute. The last couple of Proef collabs havenít quite been up to the initial mark established with Signature, but this one was quite fine. Almost milky, cloudy orange pour with a moderate head. Lovely house yeast and brett in the nose along with some malts, peppery spice, and herbal notes. Flavors are initially a tad malty but then the beer transforms into something nicely dry and funky, with flower petals, citrus rind, and peppercorn melding well. Enjoyable, and could develop nicely over time too.

Bottle. [thanks after4ever]
Light hazy golden with a big, frothy, white head. Fair lacings. Aroma is lovely, floral, bretty, white pepper, doughy malts, light vinious, roses, light coriander. Medium to low carbonation, fine creamy and quite dry mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, bretty for sure, some white pepper, light vinious, good herbal and floral dryness. Roses, tulips, coriander. Lingering, warming, peppery finish. Lovely beer.
