COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brian O’Reilly of Sly Fox Brewing Company joins Dirk Naudts to create the fifth brew in the De Proef Brewmaster’s Collaboration series. This year’s collaboration celebrates the great brewing cultures of both Philadelphia and Gent.

Broederlijke Liefde (Brotherly Love) is a slightly higher gravity interpretation of the saison style. It is fermented with two yeasts – a classic saison yeast as well as brettanomyces from an original gravity of 1066 (16.5 plato). These yeasts yield a dry and slightly spicy ale with a strong hint of farmhouse character that will continue to develop with age. The use of Target and Styrian Golding hops at 37 IBUs add floral aromatics and a balancing bitterness.

Broederlijke Liefde if the official Belgian collaboration ale of Philly Beer Week 2011. If you can’t join us in Philadelphia for our annual celebration in June please enjoy this creation in your own celebration of the international brewing community.

750mL C&C poured into teku glass. Nice strong medium sized head with a slightly slick golden color. Big bretty nose and not that horrid goat’s oil Brett usual for De Proef. Brett is a bit oily but more like slick funk. Thick herbal Belgian esters near the Brett. Flavor has a sweet but lean sweet backbone surrounded by herbal thick Brett. Soft and felt on the cheeks.

Bottle split with Ray at Zorbas. Pours a hazy gold with thick frothy off-white head. This has aged well. Big bretty aroma, some lemon, honey, hay, pepper, coriander. Medium body and carbonation. Dry finish, slight tartness. I’ve tasted one about every year and I think it is peaking now. I still have at least one in the cellar I’ll hold on to for another year. This is my favorite in the Philly Beer Week series by a decent margin.

glennmastrange (2255) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 13, 2014
Bottle. Moderate malt and hop notes of hay, cereal, and lemon, heavy barnyard and musty for the yeast, with coriander in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy light to medium amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a fizzy carbonation. Odd mix of light and deep aromas and a huge dose of Brett mixed in.

Gription79 (2263) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - JAN 7, 2014
Poured from a 750ml bottle. This is huge brettanomyces yeast showcase, lemon rind, wet horse blanket, some rubber notes, spicy, earthy, grainy, minty, alcohol heat. This is funky saison, with some rough edges. Dry with a bitter finish.

Corked bottle and served in snifter: Pours clean golden hue with fizzy fading head and spotty lace. Spicy, floral and moderately citric with nice pils malt character. Very faint Brettanomyces notes as well. I bit of brash alcohol and fizzy feel as well on the finish hurts drinkability factor. It will do but not a classic Saison, too Americanized. I should have drank this fresher methinks.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle corked and capped poured into a tulip. The guy at Party Source said this was their "Signature Ale", he was wrong. Pours nice clear rich golden with big fluffy white head. Aroma is floral yeast, medium/light body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is fruit, floral yeast, spice, alcohol, and dry finish. Too much alcohol comes through, pass.

Bottle. Very slightly hazy yellow pour with a white head. Grassy, barnyard funk, a bit tart. Decent.

Bottle shared by Tmoney99 (late 2011). Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized whitish head. The aroma and flavor have bready malts, floral notes, grassy, light funk, dry, mild spices, yeast with just a hint of fruits.

Elwood (3190) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - AUG 21, 2013
Serving: Draft at Magnolias at the Mill. It pours a hazy, deep gold. The nose is musty lemon rind, yeast, and strange herbal notes. Light on the tongue. Yeast and the must seem to be the dominant players here. Light to medium body with a good bit of carbonation and a short finish. Pretty decent.

Poured golden hazy, little to no head poured in tulip glass, citrus and caramel aroma, taste of caramel and farmyard/earthy tones, slight citrus finish
