COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The sixth edition of the De Proef Brewmasterís Collaboration Series is our first blended beer. Legendary brewer, Alan Sprints of Hair of the Dog joins Dirk Naudts at De Proef to create this unique bottle conditioned beer. Flanders Fred is a blend of Flanders-sourced lambic with a collaboratively-brewed version of the famous Hair of the Dog Fred. The result is a deep golden ale topped with a creamy off white head. The nose is complex with notes of lemon, pine, tropical fruits and spice. The palate is rich and layered with toffee, apricot and almond, balanced by some green apple, a hoppy bitterness and barnyard funk. Please enjoy Flanders Fred with food and friends. This beer should pair very well with many cheeses, roasted vegetables and grilled meats. We believe this bottle will continue to evolve beautifully over the next few years, adding a subtle blending of the flavors.

[Bottle, thanks Guerde!] Pours amber with a long-lasting, creamy, off-white head. Aroma is sour, a touch of vanilla after warming, some strawberry and cherry. Quite tart, cherry and raspberry. Green apple as well. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Somewhat dry finish with some light lingering bitterness. Overall, a solid beer. Thanks again, Andy!

Draft (in Minneapolis, labeled as HotD Flanders Fred, but presumably the collaboration version). Medium off-white head atop hazy amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cherry, sour, wood. Taste is moderately sweet, cherry, some wood, sour. Soft medium body, low carbonation.

750 bottle. Pours hazy dark gold. Big funk nose. Taste is bitter with a lemony and unripened apple profile and a bit of some teeth numbing acidity. Alcohol is well hidden. Nice.

Pours a dark red with a small white ring. Aroma is nicely farmy, with toffee and fruity. Taste is a mild sourness with moderate farminess. Toffee and a slight fruit rounds out the flavours.

750ml bottle split with the wife. Served in a Tripel Karmeliet Tulip glass. A - 2 fingers of dense white head slowly sinks down forming a thick milky cap. Lots of speckled lacing. Burnt orange colored body. S - Cherry infused wood, acidic citrus, apples, melon, creamy mango, new leather, peppery spice, sweet pale malt. T - Tart fruity wood upfront, dark cherries, cranberries, pineapple, tart apples, creamy cider, sweet pear, creamy malts, mild funk, clean spice on the back of the palate. Finishes crisp and clean. M - Incredibly smooth feel, heavy side of medium body, moderate lush carbonation. This was more tart than expected. A great balance of fruit, sweet and tart. Excellent creamy mouthfeel, great aroma, underlying funk that will hopefully grow with age. Very nice. Enjoyed this with some goat cheese and crackers. Serving type: bottle 09-08-2012

Had this at Where The Wild Beers Are. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Smells of old peaches. Chewy malt, toast. Malty with a bit of umami. Toast and warm wood, acid with a light bit of paper.

bottle. weird malt oxidation character, light cheesy funk, but mostly lip puckering sour with a super sweet candy malt backing. Tasty but also a bit odd and awkward to drink.

Aroma is barnyard, funk, lemon, melon. Only slightly hazy dark gold. Big beige head. Sharp lemony funk tart slightly sour taste. Some sweeter candied fruit aspects. Very delicious, crisp. Velvety mouthfeel. Held this guy for quite awhile, canít see it improving much more...

Good beer. Sort of between a sour ale, a wild ale, and a belgian. Blackberry and other sweet fruit, a little barnyard funk, and lambic flavors.

Cork is stamped 04/14.
Appearance: The body is slightly hazy with a rose to brown hue. The head is tall and rocky with great retention and is rather dense.
Aroma: The aroma has a lot going on, I smell some cherries and vinegar, though the vinegar is very mild and some lemon notes, though I suspect more is going on that Iím having a hard time discerning.
Taste: Like the aroma a lot is going on in the flavor. The intro has some almond and cherry notes, though not raw almond, the kind of flavor you get from almonds when you make a liquor or wine out of them. The mid taste has a slightly apricot and lemon tart, while the finish is a touch acetic, though very approachable.
Palate: Medium bodied with lively carbonation.
Overall: I prefer Duchess de Bourgogne as itís sweeter, but this is far more complex. I enjoy this a lot and am glad I bought it.
