4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beerlando (3324) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 12, 2008
Courtesy redlight. Thanks Brent! Pours a hazy golden-orange color with a small but well retained, creamy white head. Well-formed arches of foamy lace cling to the glass. The aroma is deep and complex. Vibrant herbal notes spring forward immediately, followed by waves of old leather, soured apricots, light candy sugar, and savory, old leather notes. There is a lactic funk throughout, as well as a dry, dusty, funky brett presence. Flavors show golden fruits in the base, hints of apricot, nectarine, and pear all coming to mind. Hints of raw sourdough and very subtle candy sugar provide interesting contrasts. Dry, barnyard-like brett permeates every element. Soft and balanced, yet substantial on the palate, the mouthfeel is almost creamy, silky. This collaboration between two masters is nothing short of a homerun. Bravo! Encore!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sparky (2129) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - SEP 10, 2008
750ml bottle. Pours a hazy peach color with 2 finger rocky off-white head and spotty lacing. Nose is light fruits, aspirin and horse stall funk. Taste is sweet upfront and then the brett and yeast explode in your mouth creating a cheesy funk fest before finishing with a sweet and sour dry aftertaste. Lots of funk going on in this one. Light and airy mouth feel. Decent refreshing brew.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 9, 2008
MJRBC release. Pours a hazy amber with a sustained white head. Smells of brett (dry, tarte), some residual sugar, a metallic hint. Tastes peppery and dry with a nice perfumy hint and lots of pineapple and citrus. Some bitterness is there on the finish. I’d like to revisit this in about 6 months as I think there’s still more the brett can do with this.

Bottle shared by Tom at the latest carolina crew tasting. Thanks Tom! Pours a hazy orange golden with a fluffy white head. Nose is dry hops, fruit, mild brettiness. Flavor is similar with good carbonation. Tastes pretty similar to the last signature ale. with tomme arthur. Would like to obtain another bottle and see if it cellars well. Glad I got to try this.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 durhambeer (2102) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - SEP 7, 2008
Bottle thanks to Tom. Golden orange hazy pour. Bright. Big brett and funk on the nose--huge notes of saddle leather, lemon oil and barnyard. Big time. I love these notes usually, and I found myself a bit overwhelmed. More fruity on the tongue, and settled down a little bit. Pear, yeasty bread, and like the bottle said, some graham cracker notes. I laughed when I read that, then started tasting it. Good beer. A nose hair burner.

750 mL bottle, fake corked & caged: beautiful pour - rosy gold with a thick white, undulating foam that leaves thick lace all around the glass…aroma is very promising: yeasty-brett is immediately noticeable and balanced fresh Saaz, sweet lemons, Band-Aids, and sourdough. The aroma is just fore-play compared to the flavour…Honey sweetness initially…as the tongue moves around the liquid: ripe orange melon (cantaloupe)…warm baked bread gives way to very light strawberry-banana esters, hints of hop bitterness, and tangerines. The finish takes all of these flavours and wraps them up in a delicious Brettanomyces gift. The combination of flavours and soft, fluffy/tingly palate are in perfect balance for my tastes! Reminds me a bit of Bam Biere…but with a kick of alcohol & more Bret…Love it!

750 from the MJ Beer Club. Big pour, light orange and glowing, with a big, sticky, lasting head. Certainly some of the know well-loved DeProef yeast profile is in the aroma, appealing so. Some mild summer fruits and sweetness, though, recall the Allagash Tripel (or, I suppose, their standard yeast profile). Hoppy and light, ever so slightly tart, and I agree with swoopjones that there’s a hint of orange marmalade. Very nice indeed.

bottle. This is a really nice brew. Slightly bretty. Very drinkable. Good tailgating brew. Give it awhile and Brett should really kick in.
