Opaque brownish red with a creamy off white head and a creamy palate. Musty and woody aroma and taste with sour dark fruit flavors dominating and tobacco flavors hiding in the back ground.

Bottle. Pours burgundy. Light tan head. Nose of dates, yeast, basement funk and cherry pits. Taste is bittering hops, malt, cherries, dates and yeast. Very bitter. Not really a Flanders Red, but a decent strong ale.

marcus (5004) - Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 29, 2010
Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark reddish amber with a huge beige head and a sweet toffee aroma. There is a substantial caramel malt flavor that starts sweet and turns more bitter and oaky at the finish. There may be some candi sugar in it. Not a bad brew.

(750ml bottle thanks to blutt59) rich deep amber with lasting creamy and oily off-white head. Nose of pine, brett, florals, and hibiscus. Taste is flowery, mildly bitter, rye, brett and the finish is oily floral, smooth and slightly bitter.

Bottle:   Deep dirty caramel, huge fluffy off-white head, very sticky lacing.   Has a slight Spruce tip aroma, sweetened Oak, slight powdered sugar, a bit of honey and floralness.   On the tongue its not as interesting, seems dusty, not all that oaky or sour.   This one seems a little confused.   Doesn’t seem at all like an Imperial Flanders Red.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finish is a mish mash of... not even sure how to describe it.   Perhaps tangy pale barnish/musty basement like note that is neither woody, funky, or fruity in any way.   Aroma is interestng, but that’s it.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of oak, malt, slight leather, light almond, and slight vanilla. Poured dark orange/copper/rust in color with a large, creamy, dense, frothy, beige/tan head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Very sparkling. Full of tiny, small, medium, and large-sized particles throughout. Excellent lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malt, slight chocolate, leather, light Brett, hops, oak, slight vanilla, and slight barnyard. Medium to full body. Smooth, creamy texture becomes lightly dry. Average carbonation. Oak, hops, malt, finish is medium bitter. 8.5%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Thanks (or not) to Max for opening this bottle. Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate red-amber color into a red wine glass. Slight red-tinged light tan head with a bit of retention and some mild lacing. From there, it’s all downhill. The nose is some light malt and hints of cherry and oak. No perceivable lactic or acetic character, and what is there is quite faint. The taste really adds nothing and is quite terrible, considering the style. There is absolutely no sourness, no vinegar, no oak. This is just a slightly sweetened amber ale with a mild amount of cherry. The feel is awful. It’s light and contains nothing that would indicate its style. Drainpour. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-09-2010

(Rating #3580)

Draft. Pours brownish orange with a beige head. The aroma is sweet and oaky, with some citric hops. The flavor is well balanced, sweet caramel malts, toast, citric and grassy hops, and light oaky woody notes. Not bad.
