3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 italarican (885) - Astoria, New York, USA - MAR 20, 2011
Bottle someone shared at Max’s tasting. The pour looks like dirty water: cloudy, thin, and tan. Aroma a bit cloying of butterscotch and coconut. The flavor is more balanced: stick caramel with a spruce backbone. Soft, slightly fluffy mouthfeel despite a thin body overall. Not enough earthy backbone to combat the cloyingly sweet malts.

Bottle at Max’s tasting. Pours amber with an off white head. Sweetish malty aroma, with light funky yeasty notes and a hint of hops. The flavor has sweet toffee malty notes, light fruity and floral hops, and a light funky earthyness. Solid.

Signature Ale
Pours light golden with a medium white head and good retention. Aroma is Belgian yeast with nutmeg spices pears and lemons. Flavor citrusy and funky with a hoppy finish and a crisp mouth. Good and interesting, which is worth something. Boring beer sucks ass.

Bottle from my SS. Hazy yellow-brown pour with little head. Aroma is quite winey, plums, a lot of dried hops that mingles in a strange fashion with the rest. Quite complex. Taste is fruity at first, lots of malty sweetness with a surprisingly potent hop finish and a bit of alcohol warmth.

Cloudy gold brown, huge zesty, apricots all over, spiced orange, hops bitter throughout, fruit flower bouquet. Its great! Flavor follows tingly on the tongue and heavily spiced. I dig I dig!

750 mL bottle, corked and caged...aged sample, perhaps 2 years? pours copper, fairly clear until the dregs are poured in, with a modest off tan cream. Doughy aroma that is pleasant, but not as fruity and bright as I remember the fresh sample. Bretty flavours that have clearly dulled with the age, but offer some wonderful oaky sourness and subdued and relaxed barnyard flavours that are only possible with this kind of age (not to mention down right hard to accomplish any time. Though I would rate this slightly higher fresh, I have to give this beer loads of credit for surviving and thriving in my cellar for quite some time.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 mabel (4405) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 24, 2010
[3418-20101002] 1pt9.4floz bottle. Fruity yeast aroma with mild strawberry shortcake cereal. Hazy, bright orange body with a quick foamy off-white head. Light marmalade flavour has thick citrus hops and quite a lot of seed. Medium body. Good balance, refined but still quite a boozy sipper.
