On tap at Lost Abbeyís Brunch. Pours with a nice 1-finger medium-fade light head. Nice IPA aroma medium level hop bouquet. Light yellow color. Mild hop bitter taste with a blend of grapefruit and other hops. I donít notice any sourness from the use of Brett yeast (that Iím not skilled at picking out, except when pronounced). Very drinkable.

I really enjoyed this beer: IPA goes to Belgium. Hoppy, tangy, w/ some funy a very nice brew. This would be an excellent beer to serve w/ Thanksgiving dinneer. great job.

9/05/2007: Port Brewing Company / De íProefí-BrouwerijSignature Ale has a hazy golden color. The aroma is a bit spicy with some orange in it. The flavor is lightly malty with some citrus and yeast. There also seems to be a touch of almond flavor. The flavor isnít bitter or bitey and no alcohol is noticeable in it either. The body of this beer is medium with an average palate. Overall this beer is nicely blended, well-balanced, and mild-mannered. Quite tasty!

UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 750ml bottle, from MJís club. Prost! This is an intriguing beer. Ive had some of these "fusion" beers that mix yeasty Belgian ales with American hopping, and this one does the style some justice. Pours a hazy blond with and orange center and a whole lot of that lacing thing goin on. Citrusy aroma of pear and banana with Belgian yeast, backed up by a greenish pine scent with spice. Complex flavor that teases the palate between the bread-like yeasty and malty Belgian base, the bittering hops and a moderately sour finish from the brett. Very drinkable, and the Amarillo hops makes itself known, staining the palate between each sip. Nicely done.

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Pour is gold with splashes of rust and orange. Sort of an early fall sunset. Sticky white head leaves splotchy lacing on the glass. Aroma is hoppy and spicy with citrus notes, pepper, bit of funky Belgian yeast, hints of stale urine, and drying flowers. Nice! The first sip starts bitter but begins to mellow. More yeast notes, citrus fruits, spicy hops, flowers, tart fruits (some lemon juice), cobwebs, bit of earthiness, Belgian yeast, and dusty malts. Body is effervescent and tingly but chalky in spots. Lingering bitterness. Overall medium feel. Finishes with more spicy hops, citrus fruits, mellower yeast, flowers, tart fruit flavors and spotty earthiness. Very nice!

750 ml bottle. Take an Orval-esque Belgian and a mild IPA and blend them together thoughtfully and I think this is what you would come up with. Golden-yellow pour with a white head. Aroma was heavy with yeast, especially leather, dough and brettanomycesí lacquer. Average aroma of malts and hops, especially lemon and citrus and other fruits. Behind it all is the smell of clove. The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately bitter nad heavily acidic. Medium body with a watery texture. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Fruity (appricot/tropical) aroma with floral and spice tones. Floral and fruity flavors with yeast, malt, and a bit of bubblegum and spice. Didnít notice the Brett at first, but itís there at the finish and when you look for it. Tropical fruit shines. Malts are a bit doughy. Medium body, Carbonation a bit high. Very drinkable.

From a 750mL Bottle. Purchased at the Carlsbad location Bottle Shop. Healthy crack upon opening the bottle. Pours a mostly transparent, golden honey color with a thick layer of even, frothy white head. A fresh, lemony hop aroma immediately grabs my attention. Behind the fresh American hop layer erupts a nose of yeasty fruits that is uniquely Belgian. Notes of papaya, melon, honey, and rose petals promise richness. Earthy peppers and musky orange rinds add more depth. Medium bodied, richly carbonated mouthfeel. Thereís plenty of doughy yeast to chew on up front, but the palate is lightened substantially by the richness of the carbonation. Iíve had this a couple of times before, but never an entire bottle to contemplate by myself. This beer is substantially more complex than I noted before. Along with the yeasty dough flavors come some creamy banana, cardamom spice, a hint of musky funk, and a gentle kiss of pepper. The palate dries up mid-palate as the American hops start to shine through, perhaps Amarillo. The yeasty characters outlast the hops in the end, however, leaving a brett-like dryness lingering on the palate. As it warms, Iím starting to notice the brett more and more in the aroma as well. A touch of warming alcohols are noticeable in the finish, but not really a negative point in the big picture. This is a wonderful example of a Belgian-American fusion beer.

Bottle. Sampled at Stephen Beaumont Class at Tria Fermentation School, 8/10/07. Poured orange-amber with a moderate sized off-white head. Big funky, musty, earthy nose, with strong floral hops. Sweet, honeyish flavor up front, gives way to tartness and earthiness, then finishes with crisp hop bitterness. Light carbonation; really smooth mouthfeel. This is a really nice beer; Iíd love to be able to sample it again.
