COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong blonde ale of about 8% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.
Previously 8.5% abv.

Very nice and strong Blonde. I liked it’s light texture, creamy and yeasty aroma.

De Ranke Guldenberg has a thin, slightly off-white head, an opaque, golden appearance, endless fierce and tight bubble streams, and a bit of a lacing sheen left on the glass. This ale becomes milky, once the bottom sediment is swished loose and poured in. The aroma is of pears, sweet, white bread, and grain husks. Taste is of those elements, along with a noticeable and pronounced, yet not harsh hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is high medium, with an unpleasant chalky character. De Ranke Guldenberg finishes on the dry and boozy side. RJT

Poured from an 11.2 OZ bottle into a tulip glass. The aroma is alcohol and faint fruit. The taste is strong with alcohol. The bottle cap is a dull gold color.

Miam!
