COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong blonde ale of about 8% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.
Previously 8.5% abv.

Aroma:
Medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, grain, orange, spices and hops.

Appearance:
Turbid golden/amber beer with a slight/medium off-white head.

Taste/Palate:
Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast and orange; ends slightly bitter and dry with grain, spices and hops.

Overall:
This beer is rather intense and balanced. It could have been more complex in both the aroma and flavour.

bottle @ Party Source / Bellevue KY --- Aroma of malt wheat and hops. Hazy dirty medium amber color, lots of tiny sediment dots, smooth two-finger white head that persists, lace cobwebs. Taste is wheaty malt and yeast that adds solid fizz and spices on the swallow. Midway through the finish, definite hops provide bittering. An interesting variation on Belgian Strong, one that I find appealing.

Robe trouble blonde dorée, col de mousse fine de tenue moyenne. Bullage intense.

Corpo medio, medio-pieno, ben carbonata.

Very nice and strong Blonde. I liked it’s light texture, creamy and yeasty aroma.

De Ranke Guldenberg has a thin, slightly off-white head, an opaque, golden appearance, endless fierce and tight bubble streams, and a bit of a lacing sheen left on the glass. This ale becomes milky, once the bottom sediment is swished loose and poured in. The aroma is of pears, sweet, white bread, and grain husks. Taste is of those elements, along with a noticeable and pronounced, yet not harsh hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is high medium, with an unpleasant chalky character. De Ranke Guldenberg finishes on the dry and boozy side. RJT
