A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

bottle @ home. BBF 2016. Dark golden color and a big white frothy head with small bubbles. Sweet & fruity nose with lots of caramel to balance it up. Medium mouth feel with a high carbonation. Notes of ripe plums, orange, banana, grass, some cloves, pepper, wet bread & toffee. Some sharp esters and alcohols in the mid taste takes over for a while. It finishes sweet with a balanced but somewhat dull bitterness. I remember this one as better when i last had it, when it was fresh.

Very smooth version of this beer. Hazy pale golden with smallish head, lots of hay, meadow and grass aromas, which carry over to the taste. All around pleasant brew and good introduction to the style.

Bottle, 33cl. Golden colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Well balanced beer, fruity hoppy nose with bitter aftertaste. Some notes of spices. Good!

Hazy yellow coloured, nicely lacing white foamy head. Aroma (thin) and taste are big on sweet (honey), fruity (orange peel) and fresh malts, rounded with a nice hoppy bitterness. Aftertaste?s a bit dry, but mainly malt-bitter. Medium-low carbonation, medium-firm bodied, quite oily mouthfeel.

Dark gold. No head. Smells like someone peed in a candy store. Grape lollipop, tortilla, lemon smarties, plum, dried urine. Very full mouthfeel. Orange peel, ginger, lemon, lychee, bubble tea with a foam creating a Lik-M-Aid stick softness. Delicious factor large.

This Belgian Abbaye beer, although the legitumacy might be argued, is full of malte and hoppy flavor which lingers on your tongue for just long enough to come back for more. Much more flavorful than your average beer!

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Bottle says 8%. A tasty little blond this, light and sweet with a yeasty body, sugary fruitiness and floral elements creeping in. Enjoyable.

Very nice. Just enough carbonation. There is some malt sweetness that easily transfoms in a dry bitter finish Good presence of the yeast and the alcohol is clearly there but not boozy. Subtle and delicious.

Trübes bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig süß, überreife Früchte, hefig, würzig. Geschmack malzig fruchtig, reife Früchte, leicht alkoholisch, würzig.
