COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color witha big frothy head that sways and sticks. Aromas are a bit sticky sweet, bitter hops and a dose of spicy grassy notes. On the palate there is alot of the same with a good balance between hop bitterness and yeasty doughy malty sweetness. There is a bit of alcohol heat coming through in the mid palate but the bitter green grassy hop flavors wash it away with a nice dry finish!

Pretty good stuff, but doesn’t quite compete with the Chimay 150 I just had - drank my beers all out of order here. Pours cloudy blond with good foam and lacing. Citrus, lemon peel and some hay in aroma. Soft carbonation. Finish is bitter and a little sour. Bottle.

Pours a hazy copper amber with a small short lived white head. Aroma is of Belgian yeast with some spicy fruity notes. Taste is of Belgian yeast, bread, sweet zesty fruity flavors with some mild citrus hops. Palate is a medium body, lively carbonation. Finishes with a sweet zesty fruity flavor, Belgian yeast, biscuit malt and some mild citrusy hops bitterness on the end for balance. A nice long lasting flavorful and enjoyable drinking brew.

An orange yellow beer with a big, cloudy and blond head. Aroma is interesting, sour green apples, fruits, some fructose and flowers, spicyness. Taste of green apples, interesting and balanced sourness, fruits, lots of herbal bitterness with spices. The aftertaste is dry, spicy and even some black peppers. With yeast the taste is smoother and more calm. Medium bodied, high carbonation, balanced. Interesting, sour beer, which the spices and green apples are dominating.
