COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

Simple, unassuming label, check, small brown bottle, check, grandish ale that bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel I’ve tried, check. New or just been hidden away from me for many years, this is a celebratory explosion of all the simple things melded to make one smile. It pours with so much life. Cloudy as the yeast goes in; a misty deep orange with the finest of carbonation streaming slowly towards a mountainous bleach white crown. The head is well held and settles a good two inches with half that out the lip of the chalice. Laces wickedly. Piercing, all alerting nose has lots of plump fruit reminiscent of cantaloupe, peach and honeydew with edging herbal elderflower and lavender. Similar biting and gripping ripe and underripe fruit on the palate. Bitter fruit end, vinous and dry with a piney, floral and earthy flow. Beautifully balanced and harmonious with its back drop of clean malts. Firm body made lighter by the effervescence. This is lipsmackingly good stuff. Vinous, hoppy, fruity, refreshing and scarily shielding of that alcohol. A wonderful non Tripel!! (33cL, BBE 04/15, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

Totally unlike anything I’ve had before. I guess I was expecting something like a trippel but this beer only resembles a tripple in visual terms. Golden colour, hazy, with a foamy, white head. Pleasant aroma, a little musty perhaps but with notes of orange peel and thyme honey with a hint of bread dough. Taste is honey sweet and a little bitter. Light body, lively carbonation and a dry finish.

Bottle. Hazy medium amber color with a thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, grain and notes of berries. Sour and bitter taste with bitter finish. Lively carbonation.

Bottled 330ml. -from www.beershop.hr Hazy golden coloured, small white to off-white head, spicy nose. Sweet malty, hoppy, spicy and moderate alcoholic with mild notes of fruits. Also spices and alcohol in the finish. Pleasant one but everything seen before.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Mostly clear gold pour with creamy white head. Aroma is really hoppy, super grassy, light crisp bready notes. Taste is hoppy, bitter, grassy, noble hops, bready biscuity maltiness, very low blegian yeast profile. Palate is pretty dry, good carbonation. Very easy drinking, quite enjoyable.

Pours an average frothy white head that mostly diminishes. Body is orange yellow, sparkles are visible. Aroma contains light malts (grain, cookie), light hops (flowers, citrus fruits), light yeasts (dough) and vanilla, honey, apple, pineapple, pear and spices. Flavor is light acidic, then light acidic and sweet and finally bitter. Body is medium with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Not bad.

On tap at Beer Rev. Meh?!?!?! What can I say but....... Meh! Nothing stands out here, hints of yeast, very musty, kind of lemon, maybe orange, big grass, and that’s about it. This use to be one of my favorite styles but it seems boring now.

bottle @ home. BBF 2016. Dark golden color and a big white frothy head with small bubbles. Sweet & fruity nose with lots of caramel to balance it up. Medium mouth feel with a high carbonation. Notes of ripe plums, orange, banana, grass, some cloves, pepper, wet bread & toffee. Some sharp esters and alcohols in the mid taste takes over for a while. It finishes sweet with a balanced but somewhat dull bitterness. I remember this one as better when i last had it, when it was fresh.

Very smooth version of this beer. Hazy pale golden with smallish head, lots of hay, meadow and grass aromas, which carry over to the taste. All around pleasant brew and good introduction to the style.
