A hazy orange beer with only a rim of white head. The aroma is very lightly malty and hoppy. The flavor is very sweet with some notes of fruits and a bit of hop character. The hop character is not nearly as dominant as in other "green" hopped beers I’ve tried, but they where English, so a totally different style, this ofcourse makes a difference. I think this is just a bit better than the Guldenberg, but I’m not blown away by it. Earlier Rating: 9/29/2003 Total Score: 2.9 The aroma is sweet malty and hoppy. The color is orange and it has a dense white head. The flavor is very malty sweet - too sweet for my taste and with no bitterness to give it balance. For me this is an average Belgian Strong ale.

33 cL bottle, trade with fonefan, thanks Jan. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Hoppy, light orange fruity and soapy. Mild caramel malt and yeats flavour at first. Hits a solid orange fruity hops note before a mellow yeast flavour blends in. Finish is a blend between yeast flavour and bitter hops. Gains a short soapy mouthfeel before the finish. Rather dry finish compared to a caramel sweet flavour. Nice but again a bit strange cocktail. Earlier Rating: 1/20/2008 Total Score: 3.2 33 cL botte, thanks to faroeviking. Pours hazy yellow with a huge and dense white head. Mild citrus aroma. Flavour is mild malty, dry and with a solid yeast note. Ends mild towards woody note. Nice yeasty blonde.

(Bottle 33 cl. Hazy golden with some impurities. Dense and stable white head leaving a handsome lacework. Fresh, citrusy aroma hops. Medium body with some sweetish, malty notes and then some rather distinct and refined hops that both leave a solid bitterness and a lightly soapy aroma. Quite delicate. 271206 Earlier Rating: 6/16/2005 Total Score: 3.6 (Bottle 75 cl) Nice, deep golden colour with a tall, gigantic, frothy almost fat head that’s almost impossible to keep down in your glass. Takes a long while before you can get to the beer! Hazy and fruity with some wheaty notes. Long spicy finish. The kind of beer that would probably develop very interestingly if stored. 270997

This is De Ranke’s Guldenberg made for Vinens Verden! Great Tripel! Golden with fine white head. Aroma and taste of yeast/fruit & hops. Finish is little bitter and lasting. Great! Earlier Rating: 2/14/2006 Total Score: 3.7 From the same brewery as XX Bitter, De Ranke. A Belgium Tripel. Golden/orange with white head. An allround tripel- not to spicy for beginners and not too boring for "advanced tasters". Like the quality of a good Belgium beer the finish lasts and is very comftable. A good place to start your Belgish adventure!

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2012 2012-06-20, draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas, 8-4-8-4-16=40 Hazy golden color, with huge creamy head. The aroma is dry and very spicy, cloves. The mouthfeel is quite dry, but smooth as well; it has a complex and wonderful flavor of spicy malt, with quite bold bitterness. An excellent Belgian beer, fresh and with character.
2010-12-27, old bottle, bb 2005-04, 8-5-7-4-15=39 Beautiful color, orange-amber, hazy, with a generous head. The aroma is initially fruity, not showing signs of age, then some yeast spiceness appears. The body is lean, there is some malt and spice flavor, but also a moderate sourness, that in this case adds some complexity; the final is well bitter, with light astringency. Interesting, changed over the years, but not old.
2008-03-22, bottle, 8-5-8-4-15=40 Wonderful amber color, nice perlage, big creamy head. Straightforward Strong Belgian Ale, well executed, with a round mouthfeel, some malt flavor, Belgian yeast character and a strong bitterness.
2007-12-13, bottle, 8-4-7-3-15=37 The aroma is quite fruity and Belgian, mellow. Malty flavor, with a Belgian yeast touch/astringency.
2003-12-13, bottle, 8-5-8-4-15=40 Gold color; persistent head. Malty and woody aroma. Quite sweet, malty with a sharp wood character, a bit sour. Palate rather simple.
