Commercial Description:
A strong blonde ale of about 8.5% alc. by volume that claims vaguely to be an “abbey” beer, Guldenberg bears no resemblance whatsoever to any Tripel you may have sampled, except in color perhaps. It is very hoppy and malty (though not quite as assertive as De Ranke’s XX Bitter). Made in small batches only on the weekends, they are quickly gaining a reputation as the best specialty beers of Belgium.

A hazy orange beer with only a rim of white head. The aroma is very lightly malty and hoppy. The flavor is very sweet with some notes of fruits and a bit of hop character. The hop character is not nearly as dominant as in other "green" hopped beers I’ve tried, but they where English, so a totally different style, this ofcourse makes a difference. I think this is just a bit better than the Guldenberg, but I’m not blown away by it.

The aroma is sweet malty and hoppy. The color is orange and it has a dense white head. The flavor is very malty sweet - too sweet for my taste and with no bitterness to give it balance. For me this is an average Belgian Strong ale.

Amber coloured. Apricot and orange aroma. Medium bodied. Sweet start, some crystalized sugar flavour. Drier finish with some fruitiness and a hint of bitterness.

(Bottle 33 cl. Hazy golden with some impurities. Dense and stable white head leaving a handsome lacework. Fresh, citrusy aroma hops. Medium body with some sweetish, malty notes and then some rather distinct and refined hops that both leave a solid bitterness and a lightly soapy aroma. Quite delicate. 271206

(Bottle 75 cl) Nice, deep golden colour with a tall, gigantic, frothy almost fat head that’s almost impossible to keep down in your glass. Takes a long while before you can get to the beer! Hazy and fruity with some wheaty notes. Long spicy finish. The kind of beer that would probably develop very interestingly if stored. 270997

Light tan, hazy. Aroma of pear, nutmeg, cumin, pepper, very light malt-derived caramel. Vinous (merlot, I think, but I'm not a wine guy) palate. Caramel, chocolate chip cookies, flowery notes. Yeasty, sweet finish. Zippy carbonation normally bothers me, but in this case it really carries the beer over the palate well.

33 cL bottle, trade with fonefan, thanks Jan. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Hoppy, light orange fruity and soapy. Mild caramel malt and yeats flavour at first. Hits a solid orange fruity hops note before a mellow yeast flavour blends in. Finish is a blend between yeast flavour and bitter hops. Gains a short soapy mouthfeel before the finish. Rather dry finish compared to a caramel sweet flavour. Nice but again a bit strange cocktail.

33 cL botte, thanks to faroeviking. Pours hazy yellow with a huge and dense white head. Mild citrus aroma. Flavour is mild malty, dry and with a solid yeast note. Ends mild towards woody note. Nice yeasty blonde.
