Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Flaska från SB. Rejält torr och syrlig men helt utan vinäger och därför ändå ganska snäll trots allt. Fina körsbärssmaker, lite bärkött, morellsyrlighet och lite kärnbeska. Riktigt gott.

Flaska från SB. Smak och doft av körsbär, körsbärskärnor, röda bär. Lätt syrlighet utan vinägersyra, lagom sötma, bra balans. Gott!

@ Roland’s post Mondiale tasting, Feb., courtesy of bartlebier, thanks a lot. earthy, woody, champagne nose, tart cherries, more wood/oak in taste, a bit of brett, dry and sour. Complex. Nice.

Shared bottle with PaleAleRider and Lilihel at Pub Italia. Best before date stamped on paper around bottle is 07 2019. Pours a cloudy red colour with some pink highlights, a small head and minimal lacing. Sour taste of cherries with very light sweetness (from the sugar), then bitterness and medicinal grass in the finish. More of the medicinal plastic notes in the smell with a little cherry juice. Not your typical sweet Kriek, but probably closer to a real one. Gets smoother, less sharp bitter-chemically with time. Enjoy slowly.

On tap in Moeder Lambic. Deep pinky brown with an off-white pink head. Good sour character, maybe not as mouth puckering as some, woody, fruit adds something but would like more cherry definition. That sounds harsh - it’s tasty stuff!

In Ghent-Belgium, 0,75 bottle at Backdoor pub with markoijelena. Vivid and cloudy reddish pink, minimal pinkish head which lowers super fast. Nose: subtle cellar notes, jasmine flowers. Mouth: not that complex but fairly good. Mild red fruits, medium tart overall palate, decent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
