COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Bottle. Coppery pink pour with a pinkish head that disappears quickly. Aroma has notes of cherry, apple, lemon and some mineral notes. Cherries come through more in the flavour as well as some herbal hints, otherwise it is pretty much the same as the aroma. Dry mouthfeel with puckering acidity and fairly low carbonation. This isn’t particularly complex for the style but is very good all the same. Would love to try it really fresh.

Bottle thanks to Skinnyviking. Pours a hazy reddish colour with a pink head. Lovely aroma of dry and sour cherries with a woody hint. Flavour is sour cherries with some sweetness to it, and a dry oaky touch. Nice long sour cherry finish.

Pours reddish color with thin pink head. Aroma of sour cherries with some lambik funkiness. Sour cherry flavor upfront and finishes with tart, funky lambic taste. Just a hint of sweetness. Light to medium body with lively carbonation. Nice.

Deep intense red with a pink head. Very fresh cherry/vinous & light vinegar aroma and taste. Sprinkly - nice mouthfeel & body. Almost no sweetness - very fresh & sour. Nice!

2007 vintage. Sampling date: 2009-09-11. Nice reddish pink with a small pink head that leaves some lacings. A very nice smell. Lots of cherry aromas, cherry pits, grass and funky barnyard and horse blanket. A hint of vinegar. The taste is rather tart, almost sour. Lots of cherries and lemons. It’s really impressive that so much cherry flavor is present after about two years in the bottle. Notes of cherry pits, grass and mud. Not much malts get through. The funk is more restrained than in the smell, but here’s still quite a lot of barnyard character. The finish is dry with some candy-like cherries, grassy bitterness, tartness and a mineral note. Medium body, dry and refreshing. A very nice beer, really well done. It’s very lambic-like and I would guess that quite a lot of lambic went into the blend.
