COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

750 shared at Cambrinus in Brugge with Marcus. BB 09 2012 / bottled 09 2007. Pours hazy ruby with a large pink head. Sharpish sour cherry aroma. Less than medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is sour, but not so very, cooking cherry. A smooth and moderate kriek. Cherry skin aspects coat the mouth. Finishes cherry and pleasantly sour.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2010 Pours a blood orange color with fizzy light pink head. Aroma is quite tart, with vinegar and cherry, along with a musty hay quality. Flavor starts with the sweet cherry, then shifts to some funky tartness before returning to a sweeter and smoother feel near the finish. Flavor sticks on the tongue- interesting and tasty brew on the whole. ~~ rerated 7/11/10

Dark ruby pour with minimal head. Aroma is cherry, vinegar, and some barnyard. Yeast character is quite intriguing. Flavor is tart cherry, and vinegar with some sweeter notes in the finish. Palate is medium to full with a tart, dry finish. Interesting style of sour blended with lambic. I was skeptical, but it was quite enjoyable.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2009 Pours a muddy purple/red with no head. On the nose: same white grape tartness as lambic gueuzes but the flavor is really watered down. Flat but crisp. Don’t get the cherry taste but more lemon and white grape. Love the crisp cool character and the slightly boozier aroma of this as compared to the guezes. Very drinkable but not very complex.

Pours a pinkish amber color with a pink head. Aroma is sour with some cherries, yeast, slight oak, and a little horseblanket. Flavor is tart and sour with cherries, candied sugar, yeast, and some oak. One of the most sour, sour beers I’ve had. Pretty delicious.

Murky raspberry red, light pink head quickly dying down. Funky lambicy aroma. Quite tart; in fact it tastes just like a kriek lambic if perhaps toned down a little in its acidity. Short finish, refreshing. Not cheap but worth it. Very classy.

750 ml bottle courtesy of a trade with GAManiac. Pours a hazy deep pink with lots of carbonation bubbles with a thin pink-tinted linen white head that lasted through the first sip and completely vaporized. The aroma is fairly sour with cherry, yeast and dusty wood on the nose. The flavor is tart cherries with less sourness than in the aroma. There is also some yeast and oak in the flavor as well. Bright and somewhat effervescent on the palate. Quite nice.
