Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Pours a clear deep ruby with a fat finger of frothy pink head diminishing to a thin skim and spotty lacing. Nose is sour cherry and barnyard funk against a sweet and tart background of lambic yeasts. Taste follows suit, fruity, sweet, and sour. Mouth feel is crisp, light, and lively, finishing off-dry with a lingering sourness. This is a whole lot of fun. Pleasantly drinkable, with a lot of fruit and a clean, crisp, mouth-clearing sourness.

750 ml bottle. 2012 vintage. Pours a strawberry jam red with no head. Aromas of tart cherries and lambic funk. Flavors of musty wine, old cork, dried cherries, and a bit of plastic.

At dig bar a bottle for a customer’s birthday who kindly shared a sip. A lovely reddish pour with a mild head. The head is exceptionally thin and filmy. A nice sour cherry lambic taste. Medium bodied. Quite tasty.

Had a cherry sour? This one is probably better. True lambic profile sits underneath a heavy blanket of cherry. Delicious.

Beautiful pink color color. Taste is sour and sweet, almost like a lambic actually. After taste is a bit more like a non-lambic beer. Nice and refreshing beer, will certainly buy it again.

Bouteille 750ml. Couleur rouge sang trouble, mousse rosée fuyante laissant une dentelle timide. Arôme de cerise, brett, champignon, framboise subtile. Goût de cerise acidulée, brett, légèrement terreux, bonne acidité. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.

Bottle, 4/8/14. Pours hazy red with rapidly settling, light pink head, minimal to no lace. Aroma is tart, acidic, buttery oak, dried cherry and berry. Flavor is moderately tart, fruity, dried cherry, with an oaky, buttery, vinous finish and lingering tart/acidic, dried berry aftertaste. Nice tartness and pleasant level of fruitiness. Moderate carbonation, medium body, and slightly dry finish.

Bottle bought at GBBF Bar 2012. Kept this for almost a couple of years. Bright red/pink, medium white foam head. Nose is syrupy cherry, Bakewell Tart, white sour apple, some sour blackcurrant, some red wine vinous wine tannin. Taste is tart and sour, quite tangy, acidic, Bramley apple sour, the fruit notes are going the sweeter syrupy way. It’s also going a bit red wine tannin.
