Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

750mL paper wrapped Champagne bottle from Beer Cartel. EXP 08/02/19 Lovely hazy blood red body, and small pink-tinged ring of head. Nose is complex; cherry flesh & stone, touch of unripe strawberry, quite vinous, Pinot Noir/rosé-like. There’s plenty of funk too; lees, minerals, aged hard cheese, white pepper & hay. Fine, effervescent carbonation, dry with long acidity, body is lean but fuller than most Lambics. Vinous red fruits continue on the palate - not just cherry, strawberry & cranberry character in there too, with some gamey, mulchy, Pinot-like funky undertones. Cheesy notes continue with a good whack of bitter & sour grapefruit rind lingering with a good dose of acetic acid bite on a long finish. Wonderful stuff. Fruit plays a supporting role to a seriously funky, complex base beer.

On tap during Brussels vacation. Red with a pinkish head. Aroma of sour cherries, bitter almond extract and some chemical cherry notes. Taste is very nicely balanced, good cherry notes with a nice acidity. Very pleasant taste

BOTTLE 75 CL. Cherry, and lots of other berries, a plain to see, along with some barnyard in the background. Green fruit acidity. The flavour is acidic, but well-rounded, green fruit, along with a light fruity sweetness - pretty much like any other lambic.

Hazy dark Ruby coloured beer with a small pinkish head. Complex aroma of mild lambic and sour cherries. Medium body. Mild but intensifying, long lasting sour cherry taste. (Bottle 75cl)

Looks.. Blood orange red, little pink head. Smells.. Cherry and danky lambic barnyard. Tastes.. Loads of cherry, takes over as a dominant sour flavour over the green apple/lemon citrus of the lambic, dry wood finish. Great.

Has a beautiful, saturated cherry-red color, with a hazy glow to it. I don’t even have to put my nose into the glass, as the whole kitchen starts to smell of funky sour cherries, while pouring the beer. The aromas combine the Flanders Red Ale vinegar, funky tartness, with a distinct Kriek fruitiness of ripe sour cherries outstandingly well. Wooden qualities compliment to the sweet cherries, adding an earthy cherry-stone note. Tastes of slightly tart cherries among earthy, barely noteable malts. A crisp note of lemon peel, as well as a higher carbonation invite the funk, which turns quite sour, with a dry aspect to it, while it never overpowers the cherries. Instead, the cherries seem to rejuvenate, while the sourness increases, evoking a refreshing spriziness. The sour aspect includes a fermented fruit note, as well as a glimpse of vinegar, among wooden malts, which turn more recognizable towards the finish, together with sweet, ripe cherries, as the funk settles down. A fruity, slick cherry flavor remains on the tongue for a longer while, with the sourness already faded.

Bottle with Poet and Fran. Pizza night. Pours a fairly murky red colour with little head to speak of. The aroma is a fine mix of cherry and musky barnyard character. The flavour is also very good--tart, some sweetness, good cherry flavour, mild acidity (likes lemon). Refreshing. Makes a good aperitif.

Flaska köpt på Systembolaget Ringen, Stockholm. Riktigt fin i doften, smaken lever inte riktigt upp till förväntningarna som kommer av doften men fortfarande fin öl med bra syra. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
