Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2014 750ml bottle served in a Kriek Flute glass. A: Pours this dark reddish cherry color forming a medium rose aired head which dissipates quite quickly leaving many chunks of foam in the borders of the lass. Good formation of lacings S: Smells like a good Lambic, I mean, very fruity and sour. Strong cherry juice in the nose. Lambic yeasts are a must T: Follows the nose. Fruity and sour. Cherry tart. Sweet malts and Lambic yeasts. A bit metallic. Upfront in kindly sweet but, in overall, a dry taste beer. However, quite delicate and smooth too M: Light body. Medium to low carbonation. Sour mouthfeel and aftertaste O: Excellent drinkability. Great Lambic. A winner [ BA Review @ 7/8/2012 ]

Allegedly originated as a mistake when a De Ranke ale went sour and the brewers decided to keep it a sour beer by adding Girardin lambic and sour cherries. The result is a ’versnijbier’ (blend) with cherries and has become a true classic since. It has a nice brownish red colour, hazy, with a thin off-pink head: flavour is tart, a bit funky and complex with genuine stone fruit woodiness and a hint of fruit sweetness without sugar; long, sourishly dry finish. Wonderful.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2015 Nice red hazy color, with a little pink head, disappearing. Smell is tart, must, wood, earth, acetic. Taste is very tart, sourish, sharp, very tanninic, clearly oak aged. Sharp acidity. Dry mouthfeel. Sure perfect in its style.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep red, with a small pink head, which lasts reasonably well without leaving much lacing. Sour cherry, slight musty notes and a floral sweetness make up the aroma. Strong sourness up front gives way to a nice sweet-sour cherry flavour. Hints of leather mix with cherry sweetness in the mid-palate, and the finish is nicely sour. An enjoyable kriek.
