Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy deep red, with a small pink head, which lasts reasonably well without leaving much lacing. Sour cherry, slight musty notes and a floral sweetness make up the aroma. Strong sourness up front gives way to a nice sweet-sour cherry flavour. Hints of leather mix with cherry sweetness in the mid-palate, and the finish is nicely sour. An enjoyable kriek.

750ML from 2 years ago. I grabbed this for $25 USD @ Hunger Mountain Co-Op. blood red appearance. fluffy big bubbled head that fades fast. Smells like a traditional Kriek. tart, acidic, oaky. Nice very musty, oaky, moldy taste. Tons of intense nasty moldy wit a lot of yeast and sour cherries. Really interesting.

Incrocio tra una belgian red ale e una kriek. Discrete ma non eccessive note acetiche sia per aroma che per gusto. Una "duchesse de Bourgogne" appena accennata! Piacevole!

75cl bottle. Hint of sourness in nose, surprisingly faint, mustiness. Very red color no lasting head, none, some visible carbonation. Earthy dry, sour, tart, puckering, cherries. This is a very rustic traditional Belgian sour. Not for everyone but a treat for sure.

From 75cl bottle complete with US health warnings! Wonderful pink colour, with a white head, slightly tinged with pink. Sour cherry aroma, not strong. Tastes sour and fruity, there is no compromise towards sweet here. Lively on the tongue, with a lingering dry and bitter aftertaste. None of the almond flavours associated with some cherry beers here, just a moreish dryness. Cool on a warm afternoon? Oh, yes. Another winner from De Ranke.
