COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewerís Gold varieties of hops.

Of course you have to love the packaging. Great pour--orange-red-pink with some haze; pretty good head of big bubbles. Aroma is super musty and sour. Flavor is very tart--no fake lambic here! This has a lot of complexity and is great for sipping. I like that itís a bit challenging--it wasnít easy to finish the 750ml bottle by myself. Very interesting and presents great pairing opportunities.

Bottle... Poured pink-ish read with at thin, off-white head. Nose had funk and cherry skins. Quite nice. Very complex. Tart cherries and ripe fleshy cherries and cherry skins. Mild funk, but mostly fruity and tart. Very nice drinking.

Bottle at home. beautiful ruby pink colour with a fluffy pinkish head that soom dissipates to a thin ring. Nose is big oaky cherry, balsamic, slightly creamy perhaps, really lovely stuff. Soft juicy cherries, some balsamic, big tartness and a soft, earthy finish. Lovely light carbonation for the style. Good stuff.

75 cl bottle @ Kulju. Rated on 12.06.2010
Aroma is sourish with woody and earthy notes. Also some cherries and hints of vinegar. Flavour is rather sour with woody notes, cherries, juicy notes and hints of spices. Good stuff, would go fine for a írealí kriek.

Aroma is rather juicy with cherries, sourness and earthy notes. Flavour has lactic tones, wood, tart cherries, some grapefruit and earthy tones. Rather tart stuff still.

If Christmas isnít a good time to have this beer, I donít know when is - turbid pinkish pour - nose is a pleasant mixture of sweet and sour character - cherry pie filling and red grape sweetness are balanced by dusty/earthy notes, moderate acetic character, and moderately leathery funk - smells pretty awesome, actually - moderate acetic and lacto notes up front in the flavors, followed by bitter cherry skins and pits - a tiny bit of sweetness is covered almost immediately by some vinegar and lightly funky phenols - finish is mildly briny, a little oaky, and moderately earthy/funky - nice balance, with a serious amount of lambic character - I am surprised it is only 30% of the blend - merry Christmas to me.

.75 bottle. Dark red, hazy. Very musty cherries, black cherries. Some old oak, and a lot of barn. Overall a more musty, earthy cheeryness. Body light med, soft acidity. Sour dark cherries. A bit different from the krieks ive had. More barny, dark, musty, earthy. Nice nontheless.

Bottle shared by Darrell. Thanks man! January 2006 vintage The beer is a light ruby hue, with a healthy amount of head and lacing. The aroma is the best aspect of the beer, offering a delectable mixture of funk, yeast, and sour cherries. The flavor is quite good, with more of the same. Not quite on the same level as Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen, but a notch below. Lots of cherry presence in both the aroma and flavor, despite the bottle approaching six years old. Mellow and easy to drink. Nice tartness throughout. I definitely recommend it. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-19-2011
