COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

pours hazy dark red with a very nice pink head, good retention and lacing. fresh slightly ripened cherries, lambic and other bretty-woodsy notes, moderate but surely present funk, grass, wheat, hint of sweetness. light acidity - mostly lactic and citric, ending with a short acetic finish. lively carbonation, light body, nice lightly acidic and fruity finish. very nice concoction and a truly pleasant surprise..

Beautiful looking - dark cherry with soft pink head. Aroma is sour tang. Taste began as a bland tart but then worked into a deeper citric sour with light cherry. Dry finish. Overall, not a sour ale I would return to, but a drinkable one nonetheless.

Bottle at Oud Arsenaal. Hazy red liquid with small to medium white/light pink head. Aroma of almond, paper, mineral, glue, cherries and apples. Taste is dry and light to medium sour with notes of paper, cherries, almonds and glue. Lots of cardboard notes going on, probably a bad bottle that got oxidized for some reason.

75cl bottle from La Cave à Bulles in Paris. Pours a deep ruby amber colored body with a finger-width, fizzy and frothy, pinkish purple head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is dry, woody, and pleasantly tart with a nice cherry element. A bit musty with a slight acidity. Flavor is similar. Dry and woody with some funk, must, and a nice cherry tartness. Finishes dry and a bit acidic with lots of wood before leaving a fairly lengthy aftertaste. Light body and a soft, active carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid Kriek. Dry, funky, and woody with a nice, light cherry tartness. Good one.

This must be one of the worst beers i’ve had. Actually pushed myself to give i a chance by sipping through it after the first nightmare, but couldn’t help throwing 3/4 of the (big) bottle away, which i opened with another person also hating it. It tastes like rotten puke. There’s nothing i enjoyed from this beer, horrible.

In de neus de geur van schimmels, paddestoelen, urine ... Muffe geuren ook. Heeft de smaak van oud bruin en zure krieken. Bittere afdronk. Niet slecht maar ik drink toch liever een echte oude kriek.

On tap at Moeder Lambic, Brussels. Clear deep pink with a small head. Aroma is fruity cherries and slightly sweet. Taste is mildly acidic at first. Fruity cherries and sweeter towards the end.

On tap @ Moeder Lambic Fonteinas, Brussels. Slightly hazy deep cherry pink body, medium pink-hued white head. Nose is sweet cherries, almonds, hints of lemons. Taste is mellow cherry tones with grains, hay and mineral hints in the back. High carbonation, slightly fizzy body. Nice, but without many of the dimensions I often find in sours from Cantillon and 3F.

barnyard, basement aromas, earthy, woody, citrus, bread, pale, red, hazy, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, light body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish Pale red pour with quick disappearing white head. Dry sour aromas with underlying earthy barnyard and citrus. Taste is predominantly sour, but not harsh, with a nice balance of bitterness and subtle sweetness. Thin bodied with an average carbonation. Mouthfeel is creamy and finish is very dry. This went extremely well with aged cheddar cheese!

750 ml bottle - clear ruby red with a thin pinkish white head. Very tart nose of cherries and raspberries. Light body with nice sourness and slight bitterness in the end. Tart finish (Brussels cheese)... Great beer!
