Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

750ml. Bottle. I just couldn’t wait for this one. I just got it in from John’s Grocery. It pours a glowing pinkish red color with a fluffy white pink head and lacing. Nose of sour cherries, and horse hair. Wonderful tart cherry and barn yard flavors. Very acidic. Very nice beer. What a treat!

Bottled @ GBBF 2005: Red coloured. Unclear. Not much head. Sweetish cherry aroma with a light sour touch. Flavour is dry and fruity and has a fresh sourness thats very cleansing. Has a light sweet cherrysourness in the end thats perfectly balanced. Has a very high drinkability. One to search for.

Pours ruby red into a tumbler. Bright pink micro head does not recede. Cherry and cheese aromas. Sparkly sharp sour/sweet cherries throughout. Lasting sour cherry finish.

It’s beer 66 and I know I’m getting drunker. My handwriting is getting harder and harder to decipher. However, the beers were so good I couldn’t say no. This smells like cherries, is sour, and full of floaties. Surprised to see that its just a regular fruit beer. I would’ve thought a lambic.

Cherry aroma some rope and barnyard yeasty, bacteria funk, very balanced. Sharp initial sour acid on the palate, some NyQuil coughs drop but all well balanced and enjoyable. Great carbonation...overall a great enjoyable cherry lambic....excellent.

The aroma was very much mostly cherry with a horsey barnyard underneath. It poured a hazy deep red with a pinkish head that dissipated quickly leaving no lace at all. I drank this at about 12ºC, and it started out with a nice interplay between sweet and sour. It got better as it warmed to room temperature, and by the end of this 750mL bottle, it was decidedly delicious. Very tart without being too mouth puckering. The blend is spot on. A pleasantly thin-ish mouthfeel that got more viscous the warmer the ale got. Overall I enjoyed this one a lot. I am always hesitant to give such high marks, but damnit this one deserves it.

On tap during Brussels vacation. Red with a pinkish head. Aroma of sour cherries, bitter almond extract and some chemical cherry notes. Taste is very nicely balanced, good cherry notes with a nice acidity. Very pleasant taste

75cl bottle dated 01/06 making this bottle a bit over 3years old. Tissue papper wrapper reveals bottle with absolutely no lable. Cherry red with slight head retained. Sour, sour cherry, smells like a Lambic. Drinks quite well if you like sours! Taste is an assortment of different sours, some barnyard leather and cherry. I really dig this brew, makes me want to drink a Cantillon.

UPDATED: APR 22, 2008 20040600 Brewtopia’04. Red, plum skin color, murky, no head. Bursting ripe cherry on nose. Reminds me of early season Flathead cherries: sour, tart cherry flavor, sort of musty on nose and tongue. Dry and sweet.

Re-rate at Spuyten Beast of the Yeast 20070610. Very effervescent and lithe. Nice cherry tartness with maybe a hoppy bite? Chock full of cherries. bumped score slightly from 8-3-9-4-15
