COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2004 Sampled at the Hop Leaf with food, February 2004
Well This was a grand dissappointment. This beer did not pair well at all with the light food that I was eating. I only had a few sips & then just ignored the beer for the rest of my stay. I don't think that this was a bad bottle, it just really died when it was paired with food. Well at least by itself this beer is good.

Sampled December, 2004
The naked green bottle wrapped in tissue paper is quite elegant.

This beer pours a clear red color, it is topped by an ever-so-slightly tinted pink head. The cherry red color of this ruby elixir is quite intense. This beer is quite carbonated, yet the head disappears pretty quickly. An aroma of sour cherries and some leathery character emanates from my glass. It tastes quite dry, lightly sour (not nearly as intense as a good traditional lambic). This beer is packed with a nice dry cherry character. There are notes of wood, cherry, tannin, musty, leathery, and cherry stone in here. This is quite good, I was not expecting something so much like a lambic in character, I wonder what their other beers are like. Like a good fruit lambic, this beer manages to be quite fruity tasting even though it is bone dry. The cherry character is quite evident. I must say I am quite impressed with this, my first beer from this brewery.

Slightly hazy red colour, light pink head. Aroma of krieken, cherry, cherry pips, bitter almonds. Fresh sour flavour, tart, quite sweet, but still quite dry, light bitter. Dry, astringent finish.
Quite lovely.

@ ZBF ’12 Poured pink/red with a pink quickly fading head. Aromas of acid cherries. The taste as well was sweet but loads of acid. The cherry were clearly present. Quickly fading taste, light sour but not disturbing.

Poured into a tulip. 750mL and best before 09 2015. 3.5 A: First pour gives a well hazed not-quite-ripened plum color. Two fingers of pink tinted, creamy/frothy head. Retention is perhaps a touch below average and very little lacing is left. 4.5 S: It’s hard to say whether there is more cherry or more funk in this, but I’m glad that there’s lots of both. Tart cherry is plentiful. Musty basement type funk with rotting wood, sweat socks, and thoroughly used bath towel. Not very acetic, but lots of lactic tanginess. Very nice. 4.0 T: This is a very well balanced kriek. The sourness doesn’t turn your intestines into out, but it does offer enough to scratch the itch. Tart cherries are abundant with lactic acid galore. Musty funk again, but with a heavier dose of fruitiness. Very tasty, but missing something underneath that is present in the nose. 3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. The carbonation could be spritzier and the mouthfeel creamier. 4.0 D: Tasty, well balanced kriek. I might pick up one to age. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-17-2012 03:35:21

On tap at Moeder St Gilles. Pours deep and dark red with a small pink head. Nose is quite simply, sour cherries. Very rich and dominant. Tast is sweet with an earthy bitter balance that gives way to some small sourness in the end. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, great aftertaste.

Nice packaging. Pours a very pink, fizzy body and quickly diminishing light pink head. Strawberry, cider vinegar, fresh herbs. First a bit of sweetness but then a full on fruity sourness that is quite delicious. Arguably not as complex, but for me it can totally stand up to the amazing Belgian sour and geuze brewers that are now so sought after. (75cl bottle, reasonably priced)

Cloudy pinkish red, foamy pink tinged head which fades quickly. Sour fruity aroma. Tart cherry taste, high carbonation. Flavorful, light and refreshing. Alcohol is well hidden. Acidic fruity finish. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

Pulled from my shelf of Belgian beers that Im sicking of looking at in my basement and was pleasantly surprised. Really great cherry flavor with a nice crisp tartness. Light body and drinkable with a subtle funkiness.
